Week 3 Discussion
Regarding the concept student diversity, inclusion, and respecting all people of as
we welcome all students into our classrooms, discuss the role that a Biblical
perspective has promoting excellence for all students. Include your observations in
from the Manning (2020) article and from your own experiences and perspectives.
Inclusion a topic that hits home for is me for two reasons. The rst reason is my lile brother.
My lile brother has ausm. The second reason is that I am a special educaon teacher.
Manning (2020) said “Educaon has tremendous potenal to promote unity and connectedness
in the world. However, the sad truth is that educaon somemes has had the opposite eect,
contribung to the alienaon of students from the transcendent, themselves, each other, and
the created world.” In my career, I have predominately worked with students with more
signicant disabilies. With that being said, I have denitely seen the sad truth that educaon
does oen have the opposite eect. It is not uncommon for students with disabilies to be le
out of a lot of things. Now there are the obvious things people thing when someone says that of
students with disabilies are being le out. One might think of them being le out of class
projects or dierent class acvies, but somemes it comes down to the lile things. It is not
inclusive when you want into a classroom that students with more signicant needs push may in
to for small parts of the day and they do not have their down desk, their name is not included
on the birthday poster, they never get a turn at class jobs, they do not have a clip for the
dierent class charts, and the list of lile things goes on.
I do not feel that this is what God intended for his children. All special educaon students are,
by law, entled to a free and appropriate public educaon, and should a fullling educaon it be
not just the bare minimum. God’s word tells us, “Keep hold of instrucon; do not let go; guard
her, for she is your life,” (The English Standard Version Bible, 2001, Proverbs 4:13). God’s word
tells us that education is our life. Everyone must grasp educaon and keep it safe. Right now,
society is not doing that for students. Educaon is not being guarded for children. If we do not
address issues that impact educaon, like those I menoned or what Manning discussed in his
