The Impact of Attendance on Students Academic Success
Participation is one of the determinant factors to the success of a student as he or she
undertakes his or her education. Children who attend classes are likely to study, interact with
conscious teachers and other students, and perform better in their studies. On the other hand,
truancy, which is the skipping of a number of school sessions, can hamper learning progress and
be associated with poor performance. This paper aims at establishing the connection between
attendance patterns and academic performance, the factors behind these patterns, various
approaches utilized to address the problem, and their applicability in the field of education. The

Interruptions during learning through absenteeism are not a novelty, but the effect has
lately received more attention given the cost of persistent truancy in education. This indicates
that students who are often absent for 10 percent or more school days in a year miss key teaching
concepts and often don’t catch up with the rest of the class. Studies also reveal a positive
correlation of regular school attendance in students’ performance in tests, graduation records,

Companies and employees at local, state, and federal levels implement measures on the
same to decrease cases of absenteeism. For instance, many districts have used early warning
signs to track students who are most at risk. These policies have not quite worked, and
attendance is still a multi-faceted part of students’ lives being affected by poverty, family

to consider the reasons for why students often miss classes, be it due to health conditions or

Why Attendance Matters
Attendance should be given some consideration when it brings significant influences to
student performance and positive outcomes. Chronic absenteeism puts certain groups of students

found in, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from
it’’ (Proverbs New International Version, 2011). This verse also depicts how a child will turn out
in the future depending on the kind of guidance and discipline channeled to Him or Her. These
values are captured in the fact that attending school means that a student has to follow some sort
of schedule; he has to be answerable to someone of authority.
The educators have the responsibility of ensuring that children attend school since it is
their Biblical duty to ensure that children attend church. This consists of mitigating challenges
like poverty and health complications that make it difficult for children to attend school. If

educators are to be compassionate and avail themselves of resources, then this will promote
Christ-like love and service deeds. For example, providing transportation or providing food for
students also reveals a willingness to provide education for every student who wants and needs
it.
The stewardship also holds with regard to attendance. Teachers and administrators are
expected to guide the development of students in the best way possible. This includes
acknowledging the potential and needs of each student per student and how the class can help
them attend classes and learn. According to Guryan et al. (2021), mentoring programs provide an
example of how educators can pursue this calling by dedicating much time and energy toward
developing positive mentoring relationships with their students. Such actions illustrate biblical
principles of loving your neighbor as you do yourself and acting in ways that will enable them to
be productive.
Conclusion
Despite the advances in technology for online learning, many studies have established
that students’ attendance levels significantly impact their performance, social interactions, and
overall future prospects. Chronic absenteeism can be dealt with after identifying some causes and
then coming up with the ways to solve them well. The type of program, for instance, Check &
Connect, shows how mentoring works in promoting attendance and students’ sources for
connections in their schools. From a biblical perspective, encouraging attendance can be lined up
with the principles of the Bible, such as working hard, taking responsibilities, and being wise
stewards to help every student to succeed. Efforts to address attendance problems must not limit
themselves to punishment but implement system solutions for eradicating issues such as poverty,
health complications, and family issues. As educators realize that the attendance of students can

actually be a key to their success, they establish equal learning opportunities for everyone to
