ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
TOPIC: CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

This journal article by Helton and Alber-Morgan addresses the issue that many teachers face
of disruptive behaviors and struggling to manage them with other students to tend to in the
classroom as well. They suggest that the empirically supported class wide practice for
addressing this issue is using group contingencies to reinforce set rules. They discuss the
research that they have found on group contingencies in the classroom and how it should be
applied for it to be effective. Helton and Alber-Morgan include a menu of whole group and
individual reinforcers that have been shown to increase appropriate behavior as well as
student engagement in lessons.

This journal article by Clark, Blocker, Gittens and Long discusses how teachers have
different classroom management styles. Through data, they have found that positive
strategies and social-emotional learning has been more effective in lessening behavior
problems in the classroom. To find this data, they sampled teacher in K-12 public schools and
examined the associations between their choice of behavior management techniques to their
report of the school’s climate. They found ways to connect their findings to research that has
been previously found while also highlighting ways this information could be used to help
teachers refine or change their behavior management techniques.

This website is by the University of Connecticut and its Center for Excellence in Teaching
and Learning. Their purpose is to help provide resources for their students as well as others
who are trying to learn more about teaching and learning. In their article titled “Classroom
Management”, they discuss what constitutes classroom management which is materials,
instruction, layout, behavior, time, as well as policies and procedures. They stress the
importance of deciding on a classroom management plan and establishing it to create an
effective environment starting on the first day of school. While this website provides
information on what classroom management is, practices or techniques that they have found
effective, they also provide examples of how to implement the techniques in the classroom.

their engagement in cooperative learning activities in college english blended

This article by Yang, Zhou, and Hu explores how seating arrangements correlate with student
engagement as well as students’ personal preferences. While this is mostly geared toward
higher education and lecture-style teaching, the information that they found can be applied to
any classroom. They used questionnaire surveys as well as a case study method on college
freshmen students to examine how their preferences of seating affected their engagement in
activities. They found that the most effective and preferred seating was sitting in a semicircle,
or facing the center of the room, as it helped them by being close to others to increase
engagement in class discussions and group projects while also minimizing distractions.

This website has many different resources, providing information to those who are looking to
be Christian leaders or to grow in their relationship with the Lord. This specific article
focuses on the role of Christian teachers and what that role consists of. According to
Cuthbertson, the role of a Christian teacher is to be a content specialist, instructor, counselor,
model, mentor, and lifelong learner. While they provide information on how to live up to
each of these roles, they also provide questions for a Christian teacher to ask themself to
evaluate their current practices.

The Gospel Centered Family website focuses on children’s ministry. This specific article on
their website discussing using grace-based classroom management and what that would look
like. While this website is looking more into classrooms within a church or a Christian school
and not a public school, most of the ideas and strategies can still be applied. One of the
strategies they suggested to enhance teacher’s behavior management is to give students a
reason why they are learning what they are learning or by giving them examples they would
use it in their life outside of school. The also provide examples of their strategies and how to
incorporate them into a classroom management plan.

This study was done to evaluate the relationship between student performance and classroom
management. Although it was known that effective classroom management helped limit
disruptions there was no known relationship shown between that and student’s performances
in exams or tests. They were able to find that the effectiveness of the teacher and the
strategies that they chose to use did make an impact on the performance of the students.
Despite this, they also found that outside factors had a larger impact such as attending class
and completing assignments.
8. Wong, H. K., & Wong, R. T. (2018). The first days of school: How to be an effective
teacher (5th ed.). Harry K. Wong Publications, Inc.
This book by Wong and Wong discusses what an effective teacher looks like and how
teachers can enhance their skills to be effective teachers. In this book, they explain how to set
the tone for being an effective teacher within the first days of school. They have different
units that focus on the teacher, positive expectations, classroom management, lesson mastery,
and being a professional. The authors were teachers themselves and can write with an
understanding of how things work in the classroom and how to incorporate new strategies.
9. Anderson, M. (2015). The first six weeks of school (2nd ed.). Center for Responsive
Schools.
This edition of the book by Anderson goes into detail on how to prepare for the first day of
school as well as the following six weeks. Then he provides goals and an overview of the
progression of the weeks and differentiates according to grade levels for elementary schools.
Many strategies are included in the information provided along with examples of
implementing them, sample schedules, routines, activities, discipline, read-alouds, along with
special situations. This book allows teachers to get assistance in setting up their classroom
management and make decisions based on educational research to help them be effective.

Christian Educators is a professional association of educators with the goal of supporting
Christian teachers, allowing them to connect with each other, and protect them while
working in school systems. On their website they have information about their association

teachers’ rights in the classroom relating to religion and holidays when it is updated or even
