Present Possibilities: "Can we get there from here?"
This paper will highlight the present state and potential of Educational Technology. The
relevance of research in the field of educational technology has increased significantly during the
past ten years. “Many governments have made significant investments in information and
communication technology (ICT) resources, such as computers, software, and the Internet, to
assist learning both within and outside of school” (Hew et. al, 2019). According to Nazaretsky
(2022), “In recent years, artificial intelligence has been progressively integrated into K-12
education”. Currently, innovative technology tools are being utilized to individualize
instructional education, minimize functional barriers, and modify the significance of educators.
Individualized Instructional Education
The present enhancement of educational technology has supported the development of
individualized instructional education. Educators who focus on facilitating problem-solving
skills are preparing their students to self-regulate their emotions. When learning to self-regulate
their emotions children begin to explore the extent of their interests and define their strengths
and weaknesses. “Adaptive growth should be ensured for students depending on their interests,
abilities, and objectives while they are addressing problems” (Chang et. al, 2023). AI can assist
with the analysis of9individualized9instructional education.
Individualized Instructional Education requires educators to distinguish the interests and
goals children have to help aid in their instruction. “Through information analysis, AI systems
assist students in identifying the courses that match their requirements by providing options and
suggestions depending on each student's needs” (Chang et al., 2023).
3
According to Murtaza et. al, The foundation of individualized learning is Artificial
Intelligence (AI) methods, wherein suitable information is identified for every student based on
their chosen learning modalities and understanding level (2022). AI has the potential to help
teachers to individualize all assignments presented to students. When giving children activities
they should be able to understand the concepts and complete the assignments effectively based
on their individual needs. Assignments that give students a sense of autonomy, allow them to use
creative thinking skills to be able to comprehend the task at hand. AI can enhance identity among
students, helping them to be successful in the future.
Minimizing Functional Barriers
Although AI tools and technologies have many potential advantages for their users, it is
unclear if everyone will have equal access to these advantages (Goldenthal et al., 2021). AI can
be beneficial in education but can pose a risk if they are not able to be accessible. Potential
barriers align with the AI-MC adoption, access, and literacy availability. According to
Goldenthal et al., “The focus of digital accessibility is on the existence or non-existence of
obstacles that limit people's access to and use of particular tools, services, or technology” (2021).
Minimizing this functional barrier may bring about some difficulty depending on the risks and
whether teachers would want to utilize AI technology. Technological resources such as AI exist
to minimize functional barriers. For teachers to effectively use AI tools all barriers need to
become nonexistent.
According to Chang et al., Few services use artificial intelligence (AI) approaches,
although an increasing number of companies provide data-driven smart learning solutions for
education (2023). The lack of employing AI services could be because teachers believe using the
programs will enable some form of plagiarism or cheating. AI can help maintain curriculums,
4
and provide insight into topics, and display unique teaching and learning styles. “Pathways to
new research are open with neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and other breakthroughs
happening every day. These advancements in technology and measurement give us cause to
reevaluate past studies and shape future studies” (Carr-Chellman, 2016). Artificial Intelligence
provides the framework to be able to shape future research and technological advances.
Modifying the Significance of Educators
“AI-powered intelligent tutoring systems are crucial because they enable educators to
create flexible learning paths for their students and let them construct their learning paths
according to their interests, skills, and future professional goals” (Chang et al., 2023). By using
AI-powered ITS teachers will be able to effectively individualize lessons to meet each child’s
needs. Using this method will allow educators to highlight the interests and skills children
possess to better fit their educational requirements. After curriculums have been generated by
educators, the objectives needed will be readily available to provide future development.
Developmental analysis will then be provided for each child using AI-powered software.
According to the course textbook “Across the whole range of cognitive, emotional, and
behavioral challenges that overlap in the classroom, knowledgeable educators regularly discover
useful answers to the wicked problems of education (Carr-Chellman, 2016). Education relating
to Artificial Intelligence acknowledges that this platform can help teachers distinguish goals of
positive learning opportunities. AI can help teach successful methods which in turn will replace
traditional learning. The future hopes for this intelligence align with reducing the fear of using
AI in educational settings. A key component of students' learning outcomes would be their
ability to quickly and easily obtain accurate information (Chang et al., 2023).
5
Modifying the significance of educators is important in any educational setting. If a
program has been created that can enhance the knowledge of any educator it is important to at
least look into the information provided. “Teachers consider AI as a means for improving their
instruction, they might avoid incorporating it into their day-to-day teaching routines”
(Nazaretsky et al., 2022). Viable information that can ensure the effective educational journey of
all children should be important. AI can provide innovative insight into teaching advances and
student achievement. Artificial intelligence provides teachers and students the opportunity to
engage in design. “Having teachers and students engage in design, can provide theory
development, create useful products, and attempt to improve teaching and learning in the
classroom” (Carr-Chellman, 2016).
Conclusion
In conclusion, Artificial Intelligence can aid teachers in facilitating effective learning
opportunities. Artificial Intelligence is currently not being used in some educational settings.
This is a result of the lack of knowledge revolving around the benefits this software has. Trust
plays a major role in technological innovations. The use of AI has been gradually increasing in
K-12 classrooms. Artificial Intelligence is helping to shape the future of education. By obtaining
access to databases worldwide, AI provides information that can enhance learning for teachers
and students. Can we get there from here? The answer to this question is simple, yes we can with
the help of Artificial Intelligence. Possibilities of enhancing educational technology can occur
with guidance from rapidly enhancing software such as Artificial Intelligence. The framework
created from this platform will service individuals worldwide. Research is still being conducted
on the pros and cons of AI in education but information already accessible has a solid case on the
benefits Artificial Intelligence can have in schools.
