Communication Plan
Communication is important no matter how old you are or what career you are in.
Everyone needs communication to be on the same page with the people you live with, work with,
or socialize with. When it comes to setting up a project or a new system, it is important that
everyone communicates with one another on how the process will look and who is going to be
involved. Patrick Muñoz (2022) states, “A communication plan is a road map for getting a
message across to an audience, pinpointing who you need to get information to as well as when
and how you intend to communicate it”. It is important that everyone is on the same page when it
comes to setting up a communication plan.
At Bryantville Elementary School, we are looking to set up an educational podcast for the
older students to be a part of. The purpose of this podcast is for the older grades (4th and 5th
graders) to be a part of a whole school educational and technological experience. It is a chance
for the older students to be involved more at the school and provide educational information to
the rest of the school. It will allow students to be engaged in their education, as well as
technology. Overall, it will be a great experience for students.
Target Audience
The target audience will be all of the students (kindergarten to 5th grade) and teachers
(classroom teachers, resource teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators) at Bryantville
Elementary School. Families of the students and teachers and the town residents we are located
in are welcome to listen to the podcast as well. The students’ families may want to hear what is
going on within the school, so they are welcome to listen to the podcast. Also, the families of the
students who are involved in the podcast may want to listen to all the hard work their children
have put into the podcast. Although the families of the students can listen to the podcast, it is

primarily for the students and teachers at the elementary school as the topics are geared to
education. Teachers will be encouraged to play the podcast within their classes during the school
day as it may relate to what they are learning about throughout each day.
Goals
There are a few different goals of the podcast, but the broad goal is to engage the students
at the school by providing a fun and entertaining way to learn about different educational topics.
The important part of the goal is to keep the students and teachers engaged in each episode of the
podcast. If they are not engaged, then the teachers will not have their students listen to it during
the school day. Another goal that we have is to provide guest speakers on the podcast once or
twice a month. These guest speakers could be small celebrities and/or people around the
community. This would be a great addition to get other people’s viewpoints and expertise on
different topics.
Another goal that we have is to eventually get the 4th and 5th graders running the podcast
and then just have a couple teachers supervise them and help when needed. The date for this goal
is by the beginning of the new calendar year. This would be a great opportunity for the older
students to be leaders and role models for the younger students. The goal for the teachers (library
paraprofessional and the 4th and 5th grade teachers) involved in the school’s podcast is for them
to be there just for supervision and help when the students need it. It is not the goal of the
teachers’ to run the entire podcast. The goal of the school’s podcast is to have the older students
run it, so they can learn leadership skills and have the opportunity to be role models for the
younger students. Also, it is a privilege for these students since they are the oldest at the school.

Expectations
The expectations of the school’s podcast is for the 4th and 5th graders to be the leaders
and role models for it and for them to provide educational topics to the rest of the school. The
educational topics should be checked over by the library paraprofessional and the 4th and 5th
grade teachers to make sure that they are school appropriate and educational. Also, the
expectations are that the school’s podcast is engaging, so that the targeted audience wants to
continue listening. These best practices include having welcoming and send-off phrases,
introductory and closing music, consistency in content and schedule, and using a “hook”. These
practices are expected to be determined by the 4th and 5th grade students who are involved in
creating the podcast. The library paraprofessional and the 4th and 5th grade teachers are there to
give suggestions and to help in any way that they can, but it is ultimately up to the students to be
creative in their ideas.
