The students will be completing a mini unit on Bats! The teacher will start
of by reading Fly Guy Introduces Bats! The teacher will then create an
anchor chart containing the following.

• What does the illustration/picture on the cover show? It shows Fly Guy
shining his flashlight on
a bat’s head.
• What clues do the title and cover give to show readers what the story is
about? The title
and cover picture give clues that this book is about bats.
• Who is the author and illustrator of this story? What is his or her job?
Tedd Arnold is the
author and illustrator. He writes the story and draws the illustrated
characters Fly Guy and Buzz to
go with the words and photographs in the story.
Main Idea and Details
• What is the main idea of this text? Bats are amazing!
• How many kinds of bats are there? over 1200
• Where do bats live? on every continent except for Antarctica- under
bridges, trees, caves and

Science Lesson Plan
The students will be working on their Halloween door which is bat
themed. They will be completing a bat craft of themselves to add to the
door!
HOMEWORK (if appropriate). How will students practice what they learned?

Additional Accommodation Notes:
Groups A,B,D will complete a bat fact activity where they will go around
the room and use the pictures to sort the bat facts into true or false.
Group C will complete a bat labeling activity for the bats eyes, mouth,
nose, legs, etc. After completion, students will work on their bat themed
door!

their noses have extraspecial smell sensors, and they have great
hearing.

Answers may vary. Bats are
nocturnal. Bats use gravity to help them take off when they fly. Bats hunt
in different ways. Some
wait for an insect, then fly after it. Others hunt as a group. Many
hibernate when there is little
food. Most female bats give birth to one baby bat a year. Baby bats drink
milk from their mothers.
A mother bat can recognize her pup’s scent and cry and can always find
her baby.
