Infancy until late adolescence stages. During the infancy, it presented a mom while she reads to her young boy and
how he was able to finish counting and making sounds according to the animal she was reading about. On the
readings, it says how "through their moods, gestures and behaviors children infants influence the manner in which
caregivers interact with them, " (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2016, p. 416). Assessing the way, the child responded to the
mom's reading I think that she spends time reading and teaching him different things. Also, in the emotional
development video, they present a baby that showed many signs of secure attachment, she was playing and
exploring enjoying her time there without being shy or nervous. In the next video about Early Childhood stage a
young girl was able to answer questions related to reading and writing. She reasoned that if she struggles with
something she needs to ask for help and concluded that reading was easy, and writing was hard. The girl was able
to trace over the word that her mom wrote, and this can lead to the assumption that she works with her mom
often. In the emotional development video, it looks like the child is conscious of emotion as she could correctly
describe feelings such as happiness and what it looks like. This child seems to have developed as stated on the
readings some emotional regulation because she has started to recognize when others are happy (McDevitt &
Ormrod, 2016).
On the following videos of Middle Childhood, the literacy video, it presents a boy who seemed to enjoy writing and
read interesting subjects. As he was asked if he liked to write, he hesitated and said sort of which can be another
way of saying, it depends. According to the readings, to make good writers, students must master a cluster of skills
including handwriting, spelling, and pronunciation (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2016). In the emotional development
video, the young boy was able to efficiently explain the variations in emotions and linked happiness with smiling
and angry emotion with frowning. In the Literacy and Emotional Development of the Early Adolescence, they
showed a teenager that read without a problem as asked by an adult. It shows that he feels comfortable with it.
According to McDevitt & Ormrod, (2016) when you become strong and comfortable with doing something like
reading, the tasks become easier for you to complete. The young girl during the Emotional development video
gave detailed examples of emotions and describe those as things that make people and herself happy and angry. In
the Literacy and Emotional Development for Late Adolescence young lady was asked if she likes to read and she
answered that she loves to read. McDevitt & Ormrod, (2016) said that girls tend to like reading more so than boys
because they can find more topic and readings that interest them more than boys. It is important to remember that
at his age emotional regulation is at an all-time high but still not fully developed as young adults can be very
impulsive at times. In the scriptures we are encouraged to not allow our emotions rule our thinking and paralyze
our decisions as sometimes fear, anxiety and other negative emotions can have serious effects in our lives. In
Joshua 1:9 says “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be
dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, ESV).
