1) After analyzing the teaching video, describe 3 different strategies the teacher used to
facilitate student learning.
I thought that the 3 most efficient strategies that were used in the video analysis tool was
first the use of the visual strategy. The instructor was very resourceful with using different charts
to keep the students focused and interested in the reading lesson. “Effective teaching strategies
must take into account students’ ages and stages of development” (Slavin & Schunk, 2021, p.
32). She used an anchor chart with her students, and she had all the important aspects of the story
in the chart. For example, she had the main idea, characters, plot, and the summary on the chart
(Pearson Education). She did that so that the students would be more focused, and their thought
processing would be more organized. The instructor also made a summarizing chart for the
students so that they understood what summary meant. She wanted the students to know that if
you are doing a summary, it should be short and correct (Pearson Education). Another strategy
that the instructor used was the modeling strategy (Pearson Education). She completed the
summary chart with the class. Instead of having them work independently, the instructor
discussed the process of summarizing with the students and added their ideas to the chart. She
also used the book several times to refer to if needed for clarity. “Children’s understanding of
literacy is enhanced when adults point out the important features of print” (Slavin & Schunk,
2021, p. 49). She used the model stop and think with the class so that they would do the same
when they are summarizing their book (Pearson Education). The third strategy used by the
instructor was guided practice. The students discussed with their classmates the summary and
main idea of the story. As they interacted, the instructor walked around the class to see what they
were discussing. She only intervened if it was necessary (Pearson Education).

2) Imagine you are teaching a lesson on a topic of your choice. Describe the lesson and
articulate what types of teaching or learning strategies you would use to build long-term
retention and to facilitate learning for the students in your own classroom?
For my lesson topic I will be discussing the 4 distinct types of writing styles. My
objective is for them to know all 4 diverse types of writing styles. But also, for them to identify
and pick which one they would prefer to use in their final writing project. First, I will introduce
the class to the different works of writing narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and expository. I will
reiterate to the students that each style is unique and different, it depends on what you want to
write about in your paper. To help the students get a better understanding of these distinctive
styles of writing. As an instructor I will use different learning strategies and methods that will
help build long-term retention and facilitate learning in the classroom. The first strategy that I
will use is to have them read diverse writing styles as examples and let them visually see the
differences themselves. Then they will know how persuasive, descriptive, narrative, and
expository writings differ. The second strategy that I would use as an instructor would be to
create an anchor chart that helps the students stay organized about what each writing style does
and how they are different. Put the anchor chart in front of the class so that the students can look
at it and refer to it if needed. Third strategy is the model strategy. I will do a short writing
example of each style of writing on the whiteboard so that the students can see the process that I
used to write each one. That will also make them think about what writing that they might want
to use as their final writing project.

As an instructor I think that biblically the scripture that supports my belief that teachers
are role models but also good leaders to both the community and students. “Show yourself in all
respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound
speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil
to say about us” (Proverbs 22:6, New King James Version). As an educator I want my students
to be strong, focused, and driven to learn. Be to do so we must be excellent role models
ourselves. Students learn from demonstrations on how we act and what we say in public. For
some students, we are the only role models, so it is important that we not only represent the
school but be true to ourselves. The same way Jesus modeled his life for us to follow as
Christians we should do the same also. It is up to us as Christian role models and leaders in the
classroom to make sure that all God’s children get all the necessary help that they need in the
classroom. Through reading and writing the students will reach their goal and in return be better
role models themselves. God Bless!
