Support Students' Development as Life-Long Learners. Brain sciences, 12(12), 1622.
https://doi.org/10.3390/brainsci12121622
This article focuses on how humans have a lengthy developmental phase, which is
considered to aid the learning processes necessary for the complex human brain's growth
and maturation. According to Goldberg (2022), “Neuroplasticity mediates formal and
informal learning, which produces long-term and accessible information, to produce
adaptable structural and functional changes in brain networks”. Using Neurology as a
Teaching Method helps the study of human motivation, especially its developmental
inconsistencies. As children develop, so does their brain. In order to better understand the
developmental growth in children we must first be able to understand how to nurture their
minds, This article will help me to better understand brain development from birth to
adulthood. This will be done by looking through the lens of neuroscience. I will be able
to use information from this article to aid in the framework of my essay. In doing so, I
will be able to support my students in developing as lifelong learners.

Science of Human Development in Context, Educational Psychologist, 54:3, 129-
143, DOI: 10.1080/00461520.2019.1625776
This article focuses on how decades of study and practice in social and emotional
development have resulted in a body of evidence indicating that social, emotional, and
cognitive development are interrelated in the brain and behavior and that they impact
school and life outcomes. According to Jones, McGarrah, &, Kahn (2019), “In rich and

supportive relationships, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities and competencies
develop and are impacted by the experience and contextual environment of human
development”. Development is essential in all aspects of life. Children develop rapidly as
they become older. We may learn what works, for whom, and under what circumstances
via large program studies and trials of particular treatments in preschool, school, and
after-school settings. This article will help me be able to better understand human
development through a social and emotional lens. From this article, I will be able to apply
this knowledge to my essay. Social, emotional, and cognitive development is essential in
all aspects of life.
Mtawa, & Fongwa, S. N. (2022). Experiencing service learning partnership: A human
development perspective of community members. Education, Citizenship and Social
Justice., 17(1), 69–84. https://doi.org/10.1177/1746197920971808
This article focuses on how in the larger rhetoric of universities and their role in
community development, service-learning has arguably gained great currency as a
pedagogical and engagement technique. According to Mtawa & Fongwa (2022), “In
order to make service-learning partnerships equitable, accessible, powerful, and durable,
as well as to strengthen community members' voices and their ability to use the idea of
each person as an end, the human development (HD) method includes framing
components”. Communities can directly affect human development. When children
develop, their environment can play a major role. Understanding the goals of the
community can better aid in social learning partnerships that allow all partners to actively
participate in learning. This article will help me understand human development from the
lens of communities. Experiencing service learning can help community members to

understand the influence of partnerships in child development. I will be able to apply all
the knowledge learned to my essay.
Neves, C., & Henriques, S. (2020). Exploring the impacts of distance higher education on adult
learners’ lives and reclaiming lifelong learning as a human development process. Open
Praxis, 12(4), 439-456.DOI: https://doi.org/10.5944/openpraxis.12.4.1084
This article focuses on lifelong learning and digital literacy in today's society. According
to Neves and Henriques (2020), “It is crucial to reconsider the basic principles of the idea
of lifelong learning from a humanistic standpoint and to approach it with a
comprehensive and cross-disciplinary understanding of what is now termed digital
literacy”. In life, there are several learning opportunities. “Adult learners who choose to
pursue distance learning benefit from a situation that supports their growth on many
levels, including their personal, social, and professional fronts as well as their acquisition
of skills applicable to both the physical world and daily life” (Neves & Henriques, 2020).
Developmental growth can happen through all stages of life. When children are born,
they are developing to prepare for adulthood. When in adulthood sometimes it can be to
understand distance learning and the process of reclaiming lifelong learning. This
information will help me to focus on my essay from the lens of adulthood.
Osher, Cantor, P., Berg, J., Steyer, L., & Rose, T. (2020). Drivers of human development: How
relationships and context shape learning and development 1. Applied Developmental
Science., 24(1), 6–36. https://doi.org/10.1080/10888691.2017.1398650
This article focuses on the evolution of the human brain, as well as the key components
that characterize human development, the constructive aspect of growth, and the chances
for resilience are all discussed. According to Osher, et al. (2020), “Relationships and

environments, as well as how children assess and interpret them, may be risks and assets
for healthy learning and development, and their impact can be seen throughout
generations, resulting in intra- and intergenerational assets and hazards”. Relationships
can directly affect a child's development. When children have positive relationships they
tend to develop more rapidly than when they have negative relationships. The
environment around a child as well as adult interaction can shape their learning. Positive
relationships are one thing that drives human development. “Because development
"always develops in context," it is affected by all the situations that a child or young
person experiences as they are growing and developing” (Osher et. al, 2020). This
information will help me understand how relationships influence human development and
apply the information to my essay.
Webb, S., Hodge, S., Holford, J., Milana, M. & Waller, R. (2022) Aligning skills and lifelong
learning for human-centered sustainable development, International Journal of Lifelong
Education, 41:2, 127-132, DOI: 10.1080/02601370.2022.2057167
This article focuses on how individuals can develop skills, capacities, and credentials
through education, training, lifelong learning, and supervision, allowing them to become
active members of labor markets and society. According to Webb et. al (2022), “In recent
years, human-centeredness has been conspicuously lacking from many educational
institutions”. When working with children it is important to ensure that their skills are
aligning with your learning process. Human-centered learning is important in
development. In order to implement human-centered learning, there would need to be a
systemic change that focused learning on the thriving and well-being of all those
involved in education. In Lifelong learners, “Educational methods that prioritize care,

good connections, and wellbeing to educate young people for meaningful lives are
developing, providing a human-centered counterpoint to arguments over school quality
and choice that have been dominated by accomplishments” (Webb et al. 2022). This
article will help me to apply this information to my essay.
