Field Trip Project
Topic: A trip to Jamestown
Standard of Learning, Student Learning Goals, and Objective
Standard of Learning: 1.2 The student will demonstrate knowledge of Virginia history by
describing important events and people in the history of the Commonwealth, including
a) the settlement of Virginia at Jamestown;
Student Learning Goals:
For this field trip, students can take an adventure to partake in a hands-on historical
experience of the Jamestown settlement. We learn more by purposefully doing something than
by concrete experiences (Maxim, 2018, p.144). During this expedition, students will see history
and what it was like to live during colonial times in the first permanent English settlement in
North America. Students will also be able to learn more in-depth about people they have already
heard about, such as the Powhatan Indians, Pocahontas, and Captain John Smith. As a result of
this field trip, I would love to see students gain a better understanding of the events and people
involved in the Jamestown settlement.
Objective: Given a list of events and people from Jamestown, the student will accurately explain
and describe the events and people with 8/10 correct.
