Textbook Reflection: History & Geography
Part A – Textbook Information
Read each of the three prompts below and respond by writing one solid paragraph of at least five
sentences. Make sure you use your textbook to support your responses.
1. What are some ways that teachers can develop students’ chronological thinking, interpretation,
and research skills in history and geography? Explain your viewpoint on this with at least one
solid paragraph of five sentences.
[There are many ways a teacher can develop a students chronological thinking,
interpretation, and research skills in history and geography. “Chronological thinking is the
process of arranging events in the order of their occurrence: What came first? What was next?
What was the cause? What was the consequence? How significant was it?” (Maxim, 2017).
Before a student can understand chronological thinking, a student must be taught the concept of
time. This can be a tricky thing for early elementary children but once the students can
understand time, they will be ready for interpretation and researching.
2. Describe one classroom learning activity that would integrate the 5 Themes of Geography
along with history. Explain your viewpoint on this with at least one solid paragraph of five
sentences.
[A classroom learning activity that would integrate the 5 Themes of Geography along
with history, would be to create a concept map. In the middle of the concept map, students would
write 5 Themes of Geography. Then the would create a new concept circle on the map with
location. They would then write down what location they are in. They would do the same for all
of the other 5 themes. For place, they will write down the physical and human characteristics.
For relationship within places, students will write how they have been changed by their

environment. For movement, they will write down how they are connected with other regions
around the world. That can include students in the class that are from other areas. And for the last
theme of region they will write about the region they live.]
3. How do geographic skills explain the interaction of people, places, and events and also support
historical understanding? Explain your viewpoint on this with at least one solid paragraph of five
sentences.
[Geographic skills help explain the interaction of people, places, and events and also
support historical understanding with the 5 themes of Geography. By understanding the 5
themes of Geography, students will see how people, places, and events go together for historical
thinking. Knowing where people are from and places that people have moved around to will help
in the understanding of our geographical world.]
Part B – Biblical Worldview
Select one of your responses to the prompts above and fully explain your response utilizing a
biblical perspective. Make sure you include a Bible verse and explain how this verse is relevant
to the prompt and supports your biblical perspective. This section should be two solid paragraphs
of five sentences each.
[Often times when I think of geography, I think of the early days of Jesus. Jesus traveled
to different regions spreading the word of God. God wants his word spread to all peoples of all
nations. Matthew 28:19 says, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”]
