Abstract
Education is something that no one should take for granted they should take advantage of it and
give it their all so that they can be successful in life and become model citizens. Through the
courses that I have taken at Liberty University online and working in a classroom at Davis High
School , my personal teaching philosophy that I feel will be most effective to my students and to
me as well is Essentialism. I feel that foundational knowledge is the key to being successful.
Worldview and Philosophy Of Life
The educational philosophy of education to me is that a teacher must think of
teaching as a lifestyle and not just a job.. They have to be passionate about teaching and teaching
they are able to be role models to their students and teach them all the essentials that they need to
in order to be successful citizens in society. No matter the race , gender or religion everyone
should be taught the basic knowledge so that they can be successful. In order for them to do that
they must first determine what their truth is and why To me the true meaning to life is to be
knowledgeable to the things that are around you and how they work . I feel that the handbook of
life is the Bible . In the text book Foundations of Christian School Education they state that
The Bible is the key to the Christian Philosophy. Joshua 1:8-9 states that This book of the law
shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou
mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein for then thou shalt make thy way
prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of
a good courage , be not afraid , neither be thou dismayed : for the Lord thy God is with thee
whithersoever thou goest. This is the proof that is in the Bible that it is the truth and that is what
should be followed.
Human are made in the image of God and we have knowledge , goodness, love , holiness, justice
and truthfulness are all qualities that we possess . We also have the ability to be spiritual,
rational, and relational abilities , we are moral beings. A human must be first know the truth for
themselves. There is no perfect human that has ever walked this planet except for Jesus. So yes
some times we do fall short and when you sin the only way to get right is to be born again and
follow the truth that is the bible, it is the handbook for mankind it gives you all the essentials that
you need in order to be a successful person and live the truth that God has placed for all man.
Philosophy Of Schools and Learning
. Matthew 10:24 states that “ The student is not above the teacher nor a servant above his
master” The philosophy that I associate with is the essentialism .When I was in school learning
how to add , subtract , multiply, and divide I felt that there was not a reason for it , but each year
in school we used it and now as an adult you use those methods all the time. I want to teach my
students that no matter what you do in life there are rules that you have to follow and there is
always someone in charge. I want them to know that I am the teacher and I am not your equal ,
but I am your leader and I am to guide you in the way that is correct. Think of it as me being the
Shepherd and they are the sheep I want them to be well taken care of and I will guide them in the
right direction and keep them away from harm. Being knowledgeable is something that I feel all
people of capable of doing and knowing the basics so that they are able to be a productive
person. I will be a positive role model and model the way in which I want people to be around
me. When I was younger they came up with the slogan W.W.J.D standing for What would Jesus
Do they made bracelets, t-shirts and other things so that people could wear them and be
reminded when they get in certain situations or find themselves in a bind that they could just
look at the bracelet and just be reminded that they are to model God and what would he do in his
situation. Genesis 1:27 states that “ God created man in his own image, in the image of God he
created him; male and female he created them. This meaning that we are not God but we are
made to follow what he did and how he did it so that is the model that I live by and feel that is
the true meaning what would Jesus do. The text book Foundations of Christian School
Education states that” If it is not accepted as God’s word , the teacher has lost the key and has
nothing truthful to offer the students to be strong, the school must not hire or must dismiss any
teacher not holding this view of the Bible A person goes to school for only one reason and that
is to gain knowledge from someone if they had all the knowledge then they would not have to
have a teacher and they would not be in school. They go to school so that they gain
employment and be a productive citizen in society. School is a place that you learn things such
as how to add, read and be social how order works. In school you also learn structure and how
things operate.
In the book Foundations of Christian School Education they discuss how essentialism are based
on the basics such as math, reading and writing as well as respect for authority, perservance,
fidelity to duty , consideration for others , and practicality. I feel that these are all things that
people should learn because they will be used throughout their entire life no matter what
profession they choose. In my classroom the order will be God, Teacher, Parent, and Student
they all play a very big role in the classroom and they all work hand and hand with one another. I
will depend on God to give me strength to lead and guide each individual because no student is
alike and they all need the same love and compassion so that they are able to get all the essentials
that they need. The parent also plays a big role with the teacher because you need that support
system so that you can all be on one accord and make sure the students are getting the essentials.
I will have a open communication with the parent so that they are able to trust me and assist me
when ever needed. Proverbs 22:6 “Start children off on the way they should go and even when
they
are old they will not turn from it.” This meaning if the foundation is started early then they will
be able to continue to grow as individuals. When they misbehave I will not wait to address it
but address it at that time so that they might know what is right and what is wrong.
Instructional Practice
The way that I will implement these things in my classroom is I will be the leader in the
classroom I will make assignments that are suitable for all learners. I will act and do as I would
like them to act and do. I will be a role model so they should see how you are to be and hopes
that they gain that knowledge . Titus 3:1 states “ Remind them to be submissive to rulers and
authorities, to be obedient , to be ready for every good work. This means to let them know that
when they are asked to do something they are expected to do it because I am the authority in the
classroom.
Teacher – Learner Relationship
The role of the learner is to be open to learn new things and get the basic knowledge so that
they can go on from grade to grade. They need to start at early childhood and be taught things
that will help them be productive citizens. They are to know that the teacher is in charge and
they are to follow . I want structure in the classroom I also want to have interaction time to
where they will be able to do instead of only hear. I expect 100% participation so that I know
they are obtain the information and not just listening to me talk. Luke 6:40 states that “ A disciple
is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. I feel that
that means if you follow my lead as a you can too one day become a teacher or whatever you
want to be. The teacher is to be the role model for the students and do as you say and say as you
do meaning do not expect your students to be respectful if you are not and do not expect them to
follow rules by authority if you are not doing so this is what I feel is the best way . I feel that this
should be done at the beginning of the start of the school year so that they know what you expect
from the beginning instead of starting this when the school year has already begun. The teacher
should be patient, have a positive attitude and be able to communicate effectively with the
students so that there are no gaps and everyone is on the same accord so that the learning process
will be a good one. Romans 12: 6-7 “ We have different gifts according to the grace given to
each of us If your gift is prophesying then prophesy in accordance with your faith ; if it is serving
then serve; if it is in teaching then teach. Not everyone was appointed to be a teacher and you
should embrace your calling and take pride in what you do. The teacher should be the leader and
the student should be there with an open mind ready to receive all the essentials that the teacher
has to offer so that they can become productive citizens and continue on to the calling that they
have set fourth for them.
This is my personal educational philosophy that I feel teach the basics and do not worry about
age, sex, gender , or religion everyone has a brain and learn the same certain people have been
placed in the classroom so that they can lead and teach others.
