A.Virginia Standard of Learning: 2.1 The student will demonstrate an
understanding of scientific reasoning, logic, and the nature of science by
planning and conducting investigations in which observations and predictions
are made and questions are formed;
B.Common Core State Standard: G.Force and motion: How do mass and force
affect motion?
V.Objective: The students will make something that they will put a raw egg into and drop
it from the balcony ( second story) without it breaking
VI.Materials: Whatever materials they have at home.
VII.Technology Connection: The students can look on YouTube kids and find many of
different varieties of experiments.

IX.Procedures:
A.Anticipatory Set: I would compline a set of successes and failures in an egg drop
from the previous years.
B.Developmental Activities:
i.Instruction: I would pair students up with 3 other students. These groups would
have to construct something to not let the egg break. Also, they would make
predictions on which ones will work.
ii.Independent Practice: Each student would need to bring ideas to their group and
see what would work.
X.Closure: We would all go outside and see which one worked.
XI.Diversity/Differentiation for Exceptionalities:
A.Learning Styles (modalities / multiple intelligences):
B.Gifted: I would pair the GT students in all the groups
C.LEP: I would have visual examples of what the assignment was
D.LD, ED, ADD: Have different students all spread out, Also have to be prepared for
breakdowns if their egg cracked.
E.Multicultural Connections: Most cultures, not all know how an egg works. If there
is someone that is unsure, as a class we could break an egg open and pass it around
the shell. This would provide students the ability to touch and feel.
XII.Summative Assessment/Evaluation: At the end of the lessons, students will have
experienced what it takes to drop an egg with and without it breaking. Students will also
learn how to handle when you succeed and when it does not. Students will also know that
it is an experiment. As a class we would go over the predictions and see where it stood.
