EDUC 303 Lesson Plan
IV.
I.Subject and Grade Level: Math for Kindergarten
II.Topic: 1,2,3 come learn numbers with me
III.Subtopic: How to count from 0-20
IV.TEA STANDARDS FOR KINDERGARTEN MATHEMATICS: https://tea.texas.gov/academics/early-
childhood-education/kinderteks.pdf
Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to understand
how to
represent and compare whole numbers, the relative position and magnitude of whole
numbers,
and relationships within the numeration system. The student is expected to:
(A) count forward and backward to at least 20 with and without objects;
(B) read, write, and represent whole numbers from 0 to at least 20 with and without objects
or
pictures;
(C) count a set of objects up to at least 20 and demonstrate that the last number said tells the
number of objects in the set regardless of their arrangement or order;
(D) recognize instantly the quantity of a small group of objects in organized and random
arrangements;
(E) generate a set using concrete and pictorial models that represents a number that is more
than, less than, and equal to a given number up to 20;
(F) generate a number that is one more than or one less than another number up to at least
20;
(G) compare sets of objects up to at least 20 in each set using comparative language;
(H) use comparative language to describe two numbers up to 20 presented as written
numerals; and
(I) compose and decompose numbers up to 10 with objects and pictures.
Objective: Given the task of writing and verbalizing numerical order, each student will be able
to trace, write, and memorize numerical 0-20 order, with 8/10 fill in the blank numerical
spaces correctly traced, written, and verbalized.
V.Materials: Laminated sheets of paper containing items to count from 1-20. Students will count
how many items are in each column and circle the correct number that matches the number of
items in that column. https://www.twinkl.com/resource/t-n-2388-number-recognition-to-20-
peg-activity
VI.Technology Connection: Promethean board, hovercam, chrome notebooks, and Youtube video
Counting 1-20 by Jack Hartmann https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MVzXKfr6e8
Creation Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY2W4nOD_x8
VII.Procedures: The first step in introducing my lesson on numbers will be to gather the students in
a circle to discuss numbers and their order. Following this discussion will be an introduction with
the presentation of Counting 1-20 Song by Singing Walrus https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=By2hmo323xM&t=91s
A.Set: Following this presentation I will introduce the students on how they are going to write
the numbers through tracing as well as independent writing.
B.Developmental Activities: For this portion of the lesson, I will have the students work on
tracing numbers on the laminated worksheets that were placed on each by my
paraprofessional during the Youtube video presentation.
i.Instruction: Through the use of the hovercam I will instruct, through verbal direction
saying: “we are going to write our numbers by connecting the traceable dots. Just follow
me and you will see that numbers are easy as 1, 2, 3! Yay!” Following these instructions, I
will show the students how to trace over dotted lines and how these dots and lines will
help us to form the numbers. All of this will be shown through my live example and verbal
instruction.
ii.Guided Practice: Following the worksheet practice. I will work with the students in small
groups with the assistance of my paraprofessional. I will divide the students into groups of
3-5 depending on the number of students in attendance for the day. I will have the
students work on various activities from counting with manipulatives will consist of
working with plastic numbers which will match with the number on the worksheet. They
will also work with magnetic dots which they will use to place within numerical values.
Laminated playing cards that contain numerical values that consist of the number and its
name at the top, and along the bottom of the card will be blocks where they will put their
colored dots in the boxes that add up to a single and end with the double-digit number 20.
They can also work on, in small groups, the game of how to find the number behind
penguin. This will be followed by the student verbalizing the numerical value that is
written on the penguin as well as counting it out from 1-20. They will do this for about 10-
15 minutes.
iii.Independent Practice: Following this activity, I will have the students work in groups of,
again, 3-5.
Group 1 will work with Uno Cards and clips. Each student will pick a card from the deck.
The numerical value that is on the card will determine how many clips to place on the card

Group 2 will work on adding the objects located on the left and write the numerical value
on the right side of the page in the box provided
https://www.k5learning.com/worksheets/math/grade-1-addition-pictures-sums-to-20-
1.pdf.
Group 3 will work on independently writing the missing numerical values in the boxes.
https://www.k5learning.com/worksheets/math/grade-1-counting-practice-1-20-b.pdf .
Group 4 will use a bingo dauber to color the circles containing the numerical values of 1-
20 https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Numbers-1-20-Worksheets-Bundle-
Kindergarten-2062846 .
Group 5 each student will be given a sand box containing sand and a card containing the
numerical value between 1 and 20. Each student will pick a card and will write the
numerical value with their finger in the sand https://www.adabofgluewilldo.com/wp-
content/uploads/2017/08/number-sense-1.jpg .They will do this for about 15-20 minutes
depending on how well they do.
VIII.Closure: I will direct the students to go circle up on the carpet so that we can review what the
numerical order is. Following this will be a video presentation via Youtube entitled
Creation Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY2W4nOD_x8
IX.Diversity/Differentiation for Exceptionalities: Within the time frame of working in small groups
my paraprofessional and I will work with these students individually as well as a group. At
some points within this time I will pull out students for individual tutorial sessions with
me.
A.Learning Styles (modalities / multiple intelligences): This is where working in small groups
and technology comes in and my paraprofessional as well as myself work together to assist
these students in where they need to be with the rest of the class by utilizing the chrome
notebooks as well as the mathematical manipulatives like numbers 0-20 on sheets of
laminated paper using magnets as well as giving them numbered paper and allowing them
to use plastic numbers that they can match the numbers on the laminated paper with.
For the visual learners: I will also utilize worksheets where the students color the number
that is located at the top of the page, using counters to fill in the squares on the bottom left
corner of the page, lastly, they will have to show the numerical value by coloring the objects
located on the bottom right of the page
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/358599189056336519/.
For the kinesthetic learners: I will have them use the sheets of laminated paper along which
will be placed on a silver metal pan so that the magnetic dots will hold on to the paper
containing the numerical values they will have to match with the magnetic numbers. These
will also contain the names of the numerical values written out.
For my auditory learners: I may use the chrome notebooks as I believe this will help them
understand the concept of counting 0-20 by hearing and seeing the numbers at the same
time https://www.abcya.com/games/connect_the_dots .
B.Gifted: For these students I would work in small groups with them. They would work on
more challenging tasks like having them write their numbers independently along with this
having them practice their numbers 0-20 with manipulatives depending on their level of
intelligence. I would also try to have them paired with a student who is of a lower level in
order to help them through peer tutoring. Of course, this would all be done once these
students are done with their tasks for the day.
C.LEP: I would include these students in the small group category as well, so that, I can work
with them more closely and test them to see where their level of understanding is in the
English language. I would provide them with the same mathematical 0-20 worksheets but
input both their native and English languages depending on their proficiency in English. I
would also have my paraprofessional assist me in this task as well as following up with the
student(s) myself to ensure that the objective of the lesson is achieved.
D.LD, ED, ADD: For these students I would work with in small group using the activity “Find the
missing number behind the penguin.” This game consists of printed and laminated pictures
of penguins placed in a blue card holder with the card containing the numerical value placed
behind it. I would also do an activity where they have to physically place the numerical value
of how many objects are on the laminated cards that are hanging by close pins
https://images.app.goo.gl/PZYLHM1QHRUjH8Sd7 . Another activity I would try consists of
using UNO cards and blocks. Whatever UNO card you place on the table is the amount of
blocks the student has put down https://www.weareteachers.com/kindergarten-math-
games/
E.Multicultural Connections: For these students I would have them work on almost the same
routine as above; however, I would provide them with the same mathematical 0-20 activities
but input both languages depending on their proficiency in the English language. I would
also have my paraprofessional work with them. Following this I would work with them in
small groups working on this activity https://images.app.goo.gl/SUDUdhaSPXefEtkn7 .
X.Summative Assessment/Evaluation: Using the independent work done with the manipulatives
which I will use this along with review of what a numerical order 0-20 looks like. How I will do
my summative assessment/evaluation is through student led tutoring. I will prompt one of my
gifted students to help lead the class in how to count from 0-20 by writing and verbalizing the
numbers using the promethean board. The rest of the class will be using whiteboards to
independently write, with dry erase marks, the numbers 0-20. With 18/20 correctly written and
in numerical order. My paraprofessional and I will be circulating the classroom to ensure
comprehension of lesson is achieved. For my LD, ED, ADD, and multicultural students I would
conduct their summative assessment/evaluation using the UNO playing cards with the blocks
down https://www.weareteachers.com/kindergarten-math-games/ as well as matching the
objects on the card to the card containing the numerical value
https://images.app.goo.gl/SUDUdhaSPXefEtkn7 If needed and it would depend on severity of
the special needs case, I would use the chrome notebook to also conduct a summative
assessment/evaluation for my students with severe cases.
