Improving Inquiry Skills Reflection

Self-recorded reflection will be a tool I plan to use on my way to and during my career. This
method of reflection will allow me to reflect on the lesson and see where there may have been
any point that the lesson felt weak. This method will also ensure that I don’t forget any parts I
thought of tweaking in the moment. I will be able to view myself while teaching the lesson and
take notes on what I would want to change or what worked really well.
I believe that student input is important. I will also use the method of student evaluations and
suggestions. All kids learn differently, and it will be useful to see what each kid likes to do and
how they feel they learn best. This will also be useful in some subjects where there is flexibility
in the content. I am currently a teacher at the Falk school, Falk is a school that focuses on
behavior first then academics. We service inner city students who have come into trouble with
their home district or have been summoned by a judge to attend. At my school, we have
flexibility in our content for the summer months. We do not have to teach core curriculum but
something that would be helpful for life skills. I like to ask my students what they are interested
in learning for the summer. This allows me to get input on what they want to learn for “the real
world”.
