Preparation
Do you feel that the teacher in
the presentation was
adequately prepared? Why or
why not?
In video 1 the teacher was adequately prepared to teach and
direct her class. Through having all materials available without
leaving the circle, positioning the class and herself for all
students to be able to see her and she see them, allowed the
teacher to provide instructional time without many disruptions.
Set/Closure
Describe the teacher’s “set”
(the way he/she opened the
lesson). How did he/she begin
the lesson in order to gain
student interest? Was it
effective? Why or why not?
How did the teacher close the
lesson and summarize/solidify
the important concept(s) for
the students?
In gaining the students attention and participation, the teacher
demonstrated the act of a gatekeeper by directing those who
suppose to speak. In addition, she used a unique class helper
guide to prohibit any feelings of being left out, and she included
the whole class by encouraging rote counting with her class.
Although, she had many interruptions she was able to redirect her
class and those that were out of turn it guided her lesson to be
effective. In closing the lesson, she would transition from one
lesson to the other in which she would use play on words to
introduce another lesson or subject that would allow for all
lessons to lead into the other. In the end, the lessons did not seem
as if they were closed however, transitioning into yoga persuaded
the children to stretch and relax at the end.
Instructional
Strategies/Diversity/
Differentiation
How did the teacher’s chosen
strategies affect the learning
and involvement of students?
How did he/she differentiate
instruction to meet needs of
diverse learners? How did
his/her instruction
demonstrate sensitivity to
his/her culturally diverse
students? What
recommendations would you
give him/her to help address
the needs of diverse learners?
In video one the strategy the teacher is using effective and is
structured to teach and involve each student in her classroom.
They all responded to the lesson positively and eager to
participate and answer questions. In differentiating instruction,
she could adjust her exceptional child needs to be able to
participate in the class with the other students. With the lessons in
the preschool video especially with the weather lesson she
allowed many people to answer and say what they thought the
weather was versus just letting one say and then correcting. In
addition, she encouraged all her students to participate, and even
used a unique helpers guide to allow everyone to get a turn. In
addressing the needs of her diverse learners, I would not
recommend anything in this video because in watching the video
the teacher pluralized her teaching and was sensitive to the
diversity in her classroom.

Teacher/Student
Involvement and Interaction
Was the teacher able to
involve all students in the
learning process? How? Why
or why not? How was his/her
rapport among students? Was
he/she able to interact? Why
or why not?
In the video 1 presentation the teacher was able to involve all the
students by creating a welcoming environment. The teacher
rapport was interpersonal and she was aware of her diverse
classroom which allowed her to include everyone in instructional
time. The lesson was structured to promote interaction with the
whole class including the demonstration from the teacher.
Therefore, the teacher was interacting with the students as well as
with the teacher aides and exceptional children’s caretaker, by
singing along, sharing her thoughts, sitting in the circle to be in a
more intimate setting, and encouraging the students to participate.
Student Achievement
How can the teacher prove
that students met the objective
of the lesson?
The teacher can prove that the students met their objective by
reflecting on the learned materials. Also, a teacher can prove the
objective was met in this video based on the response from the
students when prompted with questions pertaining to the different
instructional lesson given.
Classroom Management
What strategies did the
teacher use to make sure
students stayed on task and
achieved the objective? Was
he/she able to involve all
students in the learning
process? How? Why or why
not?
In the video the teacher would redirect students to get them back
on track, she used a spray bottle to give water to relax their jitters,
and she acted as gatekeeper to control the flow of questioning and
interruptions that occurred. The teacher in video one was able to
involve all the students by having them all participate in
movement exercises, singing, and choosing different people that
had their hands up and by using the helper guide she had to let
her know who was next in helping.
Voice
Was the volume of the
teacher’s voice appropriate
during the lesson? If not, what
change is needed? What filler
words did he/she use? How
frequently did he/she use filler
words?
The teacher’s volume was appropriate and adjusted to the
demeanor of the environment as needed. For example, when
everyone was talking and moving around the tone of voice
changed to accommodate and redirect the children to quiet down
and listen. In addition, during yoga her voice was calm, and
during instructional time she elevated her voice speak up and
over the class that was started to get louder. Furthermore, her
voice was appropriate because it allowed her to demonstrate and
take control of her class. Finally the teacher used encouraging
words such as great job to promote the students.

Professionalism
Did the teacher demonstrate
professionalism in his/her
dress? In disposition? In
interactions?
The teacher demonstrated professionalism in her dress. She was
dressed for a preschool setting, consequently the teacher was
covered, comfortable, professional, and casual. In the video the
teacher’s qualities or disposition was calmness, nurturing, and
precise when adapting to the diverse and differentiated situations
that arrived in the classroom. Moreover, her interactions were
professional and exhibited great understanding of fostering the
abilities of the students in her class.
Areas of Strength
List and describe 3 or more
areas of strength.
The ability to engage the students to participate
Having control over the disturbances that occur to redirect
and focus on instruction instead of the disturbances
Great organization skills, by having access to all materials
within arm’s reach to allow more instruction time instead
of distractions.
Improvements for
Effectiveness
Describe what you would
have done differently to
improve the effectiveness of
this lesson presentation.
There were many things done in this video correctly and I feel
that the only thing I would change is the fast pace at which the
lessons were given. Also, I would reflect more and encourage
more questions to see exactly what they learned from the lesson.
