Event Description
I went to the technology club meeting on February 12th 2024 at 5:30. The meeting was about
how teachers use technology in the classroom to teach the students and help them learn. Some
technology platforms that would be in use in an elementary school classroom is a software
program called scratch. This club teaches future teachers how the use of technology might be in
affect with the students' learning ability no matter what grade they are in. It is important for
teachers to be able to know how to use technology like the computers in the classroom,
smartboard or projector and also ipads or tablets that the kids will use. The reason why it is
important for teachers to know how to use technology is because the students will use it to play
different learning games, and listen to stories. Teachers should also know how to troubleshoot
any technology that is used in the classroom if there is ever any problems with it.
Personal Reflection
I enjoyed attending the technology club meeting and I learned how to use a technology program
called Scratch. I also learned how the technology program called Scratch can be used in a
kindergarten classroom and they can use this program to create a story, play games and
animations. Something that I learned from using the different features of Scratch is that when the
students create something they can use the music feature to create a creature, character or animal
to sing a song which relates to music class. The students can also make their character, creature
or animal artistically creative like doing something with a paint brush. As students in
kindergarten or in elementary school use the technology program of Scratch can learn and think
creatively and work collaboratively. In the meeting when we were told to play around with and
use Scratch I didn’t really know what to do and I also didn’t know if we had to download an app
or if I had to download a certain software. I had never heard of a program called Scratch before
coming to the meeting. Throughout all of the years that I have used technology I have never used
the program called Scratch. During the meeting when I was trying to use Scratch I had no idea
what I was doing and I think I was just clicking on random things. Something that I valued from
this is learning how to use Scratch and also learning how it can be used in a kindergarten
classroom or any elementary classroom. Learning how to use Scratch myself and learning how it
can be used in an educational environment is something that has valued me with attending this
meeting. This is something that I would say has valued me with learning about Scratch and I
have been valued by this because as a preschool teacher I would potentially be teaching my
students some lessons that would involve using the Scratch program. With possibly becoming a
preschool teacher, I personally think I might eventually use the Scratch program in my preschool
classroom. By attending the meeting and learning about Scratch and expressing what I have
valued about this technology program, I can use what I learned to help me prepare and become
an effective teacher where my students will learn a lot. Without learning about Scratch I might
not be as good of a teacher because I probably wouldn’t know as much as I would about
technology programs that are kid friendly. I also might not even consider using technology in the
classroom because the kids would be too young to know how to use technology. However, I feel
like what I have learned and experienced with Scratch during the meeting, I definitely think it
has helped me to become an effective preschool teacher. Learning what Scratch actually is, how
to use it and what it can be used for can definitely help me with becoming an effective preschool
teacher in many ways.
Connection to Course Content
During the meeting I heard the president of the club talk about how a technology program like
Scratch can be used in a kindergarten classroom. In chapter 7 it talks about classroom teaching
and technology and the chapter relates to the technology club meeting that I attended. The
chapter and the club meeting makes a connection as they both talk about how technology is used
in the classroom. In the course textbook, it mentions how digital technology was used when the
covid-19 pandemic took place in 2020. Back in 2020, digital technology was used as a way of
teaching and learning because schools were shut down and teaching was transitioned to online.
In the textbook on page 145, it talks about how technology was used with teaching and learning
in place of in person education which took place in most places throughout the world where they
used remote teaching and learning. Something that I heard from the president of the club that ties
into the content of this course is digital learning, learning differences and teaching styles.
Students are always looking at their electronic devices and some teachers might have to
reconsider their teaching or lesson plan where the students would learn in a way where it
involves electronic devices. The course content and the technology club meeting both have a
connection on how they are related by mentioning a way/ways that technology and electronic
devices are used with teaching learning in the classroom. In the meeting, they started off talking
about how teachers might use Scratch in a kindergarten classroom and it might affect or help the
kids with their learning styles. The information that I gathered from learning about the Scratch
program can be tied into the content of this class in a way that they both relate to the use of
technology being used to teach students in the classroom. On page 146 in the textbook, it
mentions how different electronic devices are used in both public and private schools where
students can be engaged with new learning experiences where electronic devices are used to help
children learn in a fun interactive way. There are some similarities where the technology club
