Part 1: Definitions
Personal Definition: Definition:
Single-subject research is a design that studies the
impacts of interventions or changes in one
individual over an extended period of time, rather
than multiple subjects as in group design
experiments. Many data points are collected,
before, during, and after the intervention is
introduced, to measure the effect. Sometimes, the
intervention may be introduced and removed
multiple times to repeat the experiment and better
validate the results.
Single-subject research, unlike group-based research,
which focuses on examining data from multiple
participants, involves direct observations and
measurements of a single individual's behavior under
specific conditions. Data is collected from observations
of the individual at multiple points throughout the
experiment, including before, during, and after the
intervention is applied. This allows researchers to
establish cause-and-effect relationships between specific
interventions or manipulations and changes in behavior.
