IV. Objective: When given a blank map, each student will be able to accurately identify
10 out of 12 of the continents and oceans by the end of the lesson.

VII. Biblical/ Character Education Principle: The Bible, while not a geography book, is
filled with references to geography that highlight the active role God had in shaping
the world. In Genesis 1:9-13, God's command for the waters to gather and dry land
to appear demonstrates His power over creation (New International Bible,
1978/2011). He named the dry land Earth and the waters Seas. This is relevant to our
lesson as it teaches students how the seven continents and five oceans were formed.
The teacher plans to incorporate Genesis into the beginning of the lesson by asking if
anyone knows how the continents and oceans formed.
VIII. Diversity/Accommodations for Exceptionalities/Multicultural Connections:
A. Learning Styles (modalities / multiple intelligences):
This is a 3rd grade class at a 3rd – 5th elementary school in a small farming
community in Georgia.
The class consists of seventeen students, with nine being boys and eight being
girls.
The class's learning style blends visual and kinesthetic approaches, which
results in activities involve a mix of both. As a result, the instruction and guided
practice will consist of visuals and hands-on activities.
B. Gifted: N/A
C. LEP/ELL/ESL/ESOL:
Currently, there is a one student in the class who is an English for Speakers of
EDSP 360
Other Languages (ESOL). Although this student possesses the ability to speak
and comprehend English, they still depend on visual supports for minor
translation issues. Therefore, the teacher will provide the student with a
printed version of the PowerPoint presentation to assist them visually.
D. LD, ED, ADD:
There is one student in the class that has been diagnosed with autism spectrum
disorder (ASD), and experiences difficulties with attention, transitioning, and
physical touch. The student’s accommodations consist of flexible seating,
extended time, and teacher read assignments and tests. Additionally, the
student will be using a timer to aid in transitions throughout the lesson.
Three students in the classroom are currently receiving tier 2 RTI intervention
services for reading. The teacher will be providing instructional supports by
periodically checking for understanding.
During the lesson, students will be grouped together based on their needs, using a three-tier
system.
Group one will include five students, each of whom has been identified as ESOL,
ASD, or tier 2 RTI.
Group two consists of seven students, all of whom are performing at grade level.
In group three, there are four students who are academically ahead and are reading
above grade level.
E. Multicultural Connections:
While teaching the different continents, the teacher can discuss the diverse
cultures, inspirational figures, and famous monuments from each continent.
IX. Procedures:
A. Set: The lesson will begin by showing the “How to Remember the Seven
Continents! ...for Kids!” YouTube video. Afterwards, the teacher will ask if anyone
can recall the number of continents mentioned in the video.
