Students will use their white booklets to write
questions that the teacher asks and answer them.
An example of the booklet questions and answers
will look like:
Students Name:
Date:
Question: Example: What coin is brown?
How much is it worth?
How many do you need to make five cents?
Students will write one of the key vocabulary
words we learned and what it means. (Teachers
may help with sounding out words)
At the end of every day, they will draw a smiley
face if they learned something new, or a sad face if
they didn’t learn anything.
For students that struggle with letter sounds and
formation, they will be able to draw their answers.
For example, the first question, what coin is
brown? They may not be able to write “penny”, so
they can draw the coin.
Grocery Shopping: Each table will work as a group.
One will be the cashier, one will be the customer,
and the last student will be the bagger. There will
be items on the table with price tags (each tag will
be one cent, five cent, 10 cent, 25 cent, and one
dollar). The customer student will pick up some
belongings and take it to the cashier. If they pick
up four items, they will have to give the cashier
four cents. If they pick up something worth $1. 25,
they will be responsible for giving the correct
amount to the cashier. The bagger will bag
everything up. The students will rotate so everyone
gets a turn to play all three roles.
Step 9: The students will have a money worksheet where
Assessment they will have to sort each coin under the correct
heading.
