I agree with your advantages and disadvantages of implementing IOT in education.Rodney's
study found that IoT technology can potentially impact how education systems are
reimagined and redesigned (Rodney, 2020). You mentioned that STEM Education, government,
and educational institutions are implementing IOT in the curriculum, and I agree. While
implementing technology in the curriculum, it must be redesigned and reimagined to best fit with
today’s growth in technology. Both teachers and students need to learn how to implement
technology effectively. I also agree that the IoT has made education more efficient. Teachers can
differentiate lessons based on the student’s ability and provide immediate feedback. The
disadvantages you have mentioned are of great concern. I have taught previously in a rural area, and
I notice the divide in the ability of having the available resources to implement the IoT in the
classroom. Technology also hinders the social skills of students. Social interaction is important for
humans, however with increase technology in the classrooms, students are more focused on the
technological device then interacting with there peers. Although technology does help prepare the
learners for the 21st century careers, there is always going to be some backlash of how it negatively
impacts their lives.

I enjoyed reading your insights of IoT in the classroom. I agree that technology is part of the
daily lives of this generation of learners. They have practically had technology in their hands
since they have been born. Although technology does build communication, such as text
messages and emails, there is no socialization taking place. The increased forms of
communication with technology, decreases the interaction through conversation. Without
showing the importance of conversation, how do we prepare this generation of learners for
interviews or a business dinner? Too much technology doesn't leave room for autonomy for our
students (Kassab et al., 2019). The downfalls of the IoT in classrooms are of great concern. I
agree that educators have had to deal with making sure that the learner is staying on task. If not
paying close enough attention, the student could be visiting sites that are not school related. This
year, my school district invested in Go Guardian, where we can monitor the students’ devices,
and block any inappropriate sites. This app makes using IoT in the classroom easier. Also, I
agree with the fact that there are some teachers that are struggling with incorporating IoT in their
classroom. In my district, I notice that a lot of seasoned teachers struggle with this concept. In
my opinion it is from the lack of proper professional development. The district set up a two hour
meeting, explain the concept once and believe that the teacher will be able to implement the
technology immediately. It’s not realistic, as the seasoned teacher is learning technology as it
grows, whereas this generation of learners are experienced with technology.
