I would think that trying to understand what the purpose of school is, is pretty simple to
find out. As I further my education in career in the educational world, this is not as simple as I
thought. According to Klamm (n.d), there are four different perspectives on what school’s
purpose is. What is education’s purpose? To meet the needs of the children, guarantee positive
student achievements or to pass the material on from generation to generation? After looking
through several of options, it is essential to spread the knowledge through meeting student’s needs.
In doing so, this will guarantee success in their future. Through whatever decisions are made, the
children should be number one priority and kept in mind at all times. The health and wellness of
smaller cells within society, which is the family, is what makes for a healthy and successful
society. Most families include a mother, father, and children. Societies have proven to have more
stability, healthier children, secureness and productive in school and/or work. Broken families
appear to have the ripple effect which would include insecurity, poverty, instability and
inconsistencies.
In society today, schools serve more than one purpose. Clearly, the first purpose is to
educate our students and prepare them for the real world. Our society could be more orderly in the
world today as a whole if our youth is properly educated. Educated citizens result in a more
orderly society as a whole. The responsibility of teaching the students how to become productive
citizens, regardless of gender and race, has relied heavily on the school system. Education is very
important academically nut also important in all aspects of their lives. All students should have
the knowledge and skills that will benefit them in becoming a responsible, reliable and respected
citizen. High school graduates are expected to continue their educational goals at the collegiate
level or through a trade school. Due to the increase in single parent homes, schools have now

taken on the responsibility of making sure each student is taught social skills, behavior
management, manners and time management.
As a school leader, it is important to determine what your school culture is inside the
building and create a vision that you want the students as well as the staff to follow. You want
your staff to empower this vision to help set the tone in the building for the students. Where this
task becomes challenging is when there are students and/or staff who are opposed to your vision.
The goal would be finding out why they are opposed and how you can fix it to have them on
board. The small unhealthy cells will be the ones who you are spending majority of your time on
to guiding them in the right directions so that you can reach certain goals. You will allocate
resources to create that healthy change and remove the “nucleus” of the problem.
