POLICY ANALYSIS
Logan County Schools Policy Handbook:
2260 - NONDISCRIMINATION AND ACCESS TO EQUAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY
The Board is committed to providing an equal educational opportunity for all students in the District.
The Board does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed,
pregnancy, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, sex (including gender status, change of sex or
gender identity), or physical, mental, emotional, or learning disability (Protected Classes) in any of its
student program and activities. This policy is intended to support and promote nondiscriminatory practices in
all District and school activities, particularly in the following areas:
A. use of objective bases for admission to any school, class, program, or activity;
B. prohibition of harassment towards students and procedures for the investigation of claims (see
Policy 5517);
C. use of disciplinary authority, including suspension and expulsion authority;
D. administration of gifts, bequests, scholarships and other aids, benefits, or services to students from
private agencies, organizations, or persons;
E. selection of instructional and library media materials in a nondiscriminatory manner and that reflect
the cultural diversity and pluralistic nature of American society;
F. design and implementation of student evaluation practices, materials, and tools, but not at the
exclusion of implementing techniques to meet students' individual needs;
G. design and configuration of facilities;
H. opportunity for participation in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, provided that separate
programs for male and female students may be available provided comparable activities are made
available to all in terms of type, scope, and District support; and
I. the school lunch program and other school-sponsored food service programs.
This is an except from the Logan county board of education handbook addressing diversity
within the school system. It was difficult to find, and I had to use the search by in the online
manual to find policies addressing diversity. This should be something simple that anyone can
look up and find in the case of biased opinions/situations occurring at the school. Most of these
also include the students and did not address being biased towards staff members. The beginning
of the policy does address that they are striving for diversity and do not discriminate in the hiring
process, however it is not further addressed within the handbook that was easily accessible.
Even though a lot of the policy is vague in regard to staff diversity, it still does give a good
start to dealing with sensitive climate situations. It is hard to be unbiased on everything that is

happening in the school district, that is why I feel it is important to have a board full of people
with many differing opinions. This way when a situation may arise, staff is given fair and equal
treatment, and does not risk have a biased opinion in judgment. By creating policies that address
diversity, in simple terms or not, it will give a good starting point to administration, or other
persons involved, on how to handle the situation.
Colossians 1:16-17 is a powerful statement that helps to understand the Lords view on
diversity. It states that “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through
him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” As an
administrator this should be a great verse to follow when it comes to diversity, and unbiased
opinions. We are all created equal through Him. We should all be treated fairly, no matter the
circumstances.
