CASE STUDY CONNECTIONS ASSIGNMENT EDAS 742
Introduction
As a leader and a teacher, I appreciate when leaders give students the opportunity to
self-discover. It is important as a leader to investigate boundaries and to set up your team for
success. I view myself as a transformative leader. “Transformational leaders as managers who
advance and propel their followers by anticipating and communicating appealing visions,
common goals, and shared values, as well as by setting an illustration of the requested
behavior. Facets of transformational leadership are: idealized influence, idealized attribution
and idealized behavior, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized
consideration” (Heliyon,2020). Transformative leadership takes pride in the work of their
followers. The leader must also have positive relationships that are filled with trust.
I also view myself as an Inclusive Leader. First and foremost it is important to be
honest with yourself and show self-awareness. An inclusive leader is empathetic and
understanding. This type of leadership acts through a purpose to lead by example and to
influence the minds of others.
Because a leader’s attitudes, values, and behaviors influence member
experiences within groups and organizations, leaders are essential to facilitating
inclusion and for creating and maintaining environments in which followers
feel valued and are capable of fully utilizing their perspectives and talents to
contribute to organizational objectives (Northouse & Lee 2021, p. 95).
Personal Vision
My vision of leadership is being provided with a foundation for a system of how things
are required to be done. A leader sets boundaries and rules for the followers. The leader truly

understands the end goal and they lead by these guiding principles. “To build a team atmosphere
all school employees need to foster and model open communication” (Moore).
My vision guides my leadership actions in the workplace by teaching me to provide
precise boundaries and foundations for my students and the staff I collaborate with. I believe that
when working as a team it is important to have clear expectations for goals. Proverbs 11:14 says
“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety”
(Proverbs 11:14). The goals should be outlined and who is responsible for them is clearly
indicated. The process of how things are done is important to lay out as well.
My communication skill is that I will always speak up and speak for others. I think that
this is demonstrated in meetings in my current position. I will meet with my team and gather the
team's information. The team will together clarify the information but I will take the information
to the appropriate stakeholders. "Anyone can have a grand vision, but a leader is someone who
can inspire a group of people and help them meet that goal” (O’Connell, 2023). In order to
accomplish a goal, the leader must inspire their employees to follow through with the same goal.
Connections to Leadership Approaches and Concepts
Case 3.1 PRE K-12 Concentration Before Barb Burns out relates to me in the way that
the leader trusted the new staff member to take on the role and to accomplish the tasks that are
required of the job. It is important as a leader to have an understanding of each of your
employees and their technical, human, and conceptual skills. When asking a staff member to
complete a task there should be an understanding that the staff member has the ability and
personality to accomplish the task that is asked of them.

My leadership and communication style work to identify what skills are needed for specific
tasks and jobs. Members wouldn’t be given tasks that aren’t something that I knew that they
would do very well with.
Actions
I would like to further enhance my school leadership abilities by taking more
responsibility in my current role. This school year, I plan to apply to serve as one of our
department heads for Special Education. I feel that my learning process of information
regarding special education is evolving constantly I will have to learn to adapt each year to
various groups of students. Communication skills will continuously be worked on as I am
given more opportunities to lead a team and set guidelines for staff.
Building Others
As an educator, it is important to evolve in what is considered best practice. In order to
gain more knowledge on the scientific methods of teaching and learning, you must attend
trainings that discuss various educational topics. As a leader, I will encourage my other team
members to attend trainings and conferences with me. I have learned in order to be a strong
leader, you have to be willing to reflect on your own practices and determine what practice is the
most effective for what you are trying to accomplish.
When I am in a position of leadership in my educational community, I would like to
prioritize including all stakeholders in meetings that surround making decisions. There needs to
be representation from every department/content area in the school organization. My first order
of business would be to create a committee that represented the various content areas in our
school community.
