Introduction
The marks and characteristics of a disciple of Jesus are the evidence of one who is
promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The final words of Jesus here on earth are the command
to. “Go and make disciples of all nations”. In his commentary on the Bible, Barclay writes; “

his life a Christian should be learning more and more about Jesus. The shut mind is the end of
discipleship”.2 The word disciple itself can be defined as: 1. one who accepts and assists in
spreading the doctrines of another: such as one of the twelve in the inner circle of Christianity: 2.
Christ's followers according to the Gospel accounts. Becoming a disciple to raise up additional

disciples is the work of the believer in Christ. Success as a follower of Christ and the Christian
life is found in making disciples. In his letter to the church at Corinth, the apostle Paul tells us,

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ”. In this paper the marks of a disciple
