EXTRAORDINARY
“ADAM”
I. Introduction:
- Show video Creation (Genesis 1-2)
- Introduce the series
- Introduce the character of Adam
II. Created for a purpose
- Read: Genesis 1: 26 – 31
- The story of Adam starts with reality that God created
him for an extraordinary purpose.
- Not only was Adam supposed to be in charge of the
land and all the animals that lived in it, but also, he
was supposed to have and experience an
extraordinary relationship with God.
- Adam had the privilege and opportunity to be able to
walk in this earth with God.
- Just imagine that, imagine you are Adam, created by
someone so powerful and greater than him, yet his
creator would not treat him like a toy, but instead
would have personal relationship with His creation.
- Use Playdooh for illustration.
- Adam had something good going for him. He had an
extraordinary relationship with God and an
extraordinary job to do.
- Here’s the thing, when we look at the purpose to
which he was created for, we can think “man that’s a
lot for one person,” but the truth is that because of his
special relationship with God, Adam would have had
everything that he needed to succeed at his disposal.
- Likewise, God has created each one of us for a
purpose.
- Read Genesis 2:15
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the
garden of Eden to work it and keep it.”
- This verse shows us how God specifically placed Adam
in this garden, so that he could accomplish his
purpose.
- Students, it is not a coincidence or chance where you
guys are currently placed.
- God placed you where you are for a reason.
- Give example of reasons.
- Here’s the reality, God will provide you with
everything you need to be able to succeed. You just
have to be committed to do what you have been
asked to do!
III. Sin gets in the way of our purpose
-Read Genesis 3:1-7
-After reading these verses we can see how Adam and
Eve stopped being committed to the specific
instructions that God gave them.
-It all started with a lie.
-God said: “You may surely eat of every tree of the
garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and
evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it
you shall surely die.”
-Satan said: “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of
any tree in the garden’?”
-Eve said: “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the
garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of
the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither
shall you touch it, lest you die.’”
-Satan said: “You will sure not surely die. For God
knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be
opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and
evil.”
-Adam and Eve were told specifically what they
shouldn’t do, but because they let their guards down
and started to give room for the lie, they ended up
sinning against God.
-Embracing lies will always lead to sinning.
2
-To clarify, “lies” doesn’t get in the way of your
purpose, but when you embrace them in your life,
then they will get in the way of it.
-In other words, temptation doesn’t get in the way of
your purpose, but when you actually follow through
the temptation, then it does.
-Give examples of lies.
IV. Excuses get in the way of God working in our life.
- Read: Genesis 3: 8 – 13
- As soon as they get caught with their sin, Adam and
Eve blame each other for their mistake.
- They didn’t take any ownership.
- Adam said: “The woman whom you gave to be with
me, she gave me the fruit if the tree, and I ate it.”
- Eve said: “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
- Cf. 1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.”
- They should have owned up to their mistakes and
should have come to God asking for forgiveness.
- Maybe if they would have done that, God would have
given them another chance in the garden. That’s a
thought.
- Regardless of that, we are all like Adam and Eve; we
don’t take ownership of the bad things that we do,
and because of that it makes it harder for God to do
any work in our life.
- Give examples of excuses.
- Cf. Proverbs 28:13
“Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain
mercy.”
V. Our consequences can lead to an extraordinary
God
3
-Mention the consequences for their mistake.
-Read Genesis 3:21
-Despite of their mistake and how they fell short of
their purpose, God still took care of them.
-Think about it, God could have let Adam and Eve
figure out how they were supposed to get themselves
clothed.
-Instead, God took the time to make them something
to cover up.
-The reason why He did that is because God is not
ordinary like us, with flaws and full of issues. No, our
God is an extraordinary God.
-Adam and Eve could have easily thought “this is it for
us, we’re done.” But because of who they were
serving, they knew that there was still hope.
-Let this be an encouragement to all of us.
-Just because you are dealing with the consequences
of your actions doesn’t mean that you won’t be able
to accomplish your purpose. With the help and
provision of God, we are able to accomplish it.
VI. Conclusion:
- Remember:
1. Although you are ordinary, with the help of God,
you have been created to do extraordinary
things.
2. Believing and embracing lies that go against
what the Bible say can get in the way of your
purpose.
3. We need to take responsibilities for our
mistakes. This sets the tone for God to work in
our lives.
4. Our consequences don’t get in the way of the
love of God for us. Our God is extraordinary,
and with His help we can accomplish our
purpose!
