Introduction
Dietrich Bonhoeffer asked some questions in his book The Cost of Discipleship. He wondered
what the call to discipleship can mean for today’s worker, businessman, squire, and soldier. He
wonders where the call to discipleship will lead those who answer it, what decisions and
sacrifices it will demand from them .

There are, according to Bonhoeffer, two kinds of grace: cheap grace and costly grace. Cheap
grace is one without price, without cost . This is grace that comes without discipleship; this is
