Introduction
Discipleship is a key opponent of Christianity, Jesus calls us all to be fishers of men.
The Great Commission is what the disciples are all about. In this paper, I will give a description
of my disciple making plans for my future organization. I will explain my version of the 5 V’s. I
will explain my vision; who my organization will be focusing on; and what regions,
demographics, groups, and ages that we will be aiming to reach and disciple. I will also describe
our core values in ministry; the scriptures and principles we will be basing our plan on; and how
they apply. In addition, I will be explaining our views on: church, pastor, saints, gospel,
evangelism, discipleship, and leadership. I will also describe what vehicles we will use to reach
people and how we will use: the church structure, small group philosophy, events, personnel,
curriculum, slogans, and finally our communication plans. Finally, I will explain our verifiers
that we will use to measure our success.
Vision
My vision statement is: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Amen” (Matthew 28:19-20, NKJV). The reason I chose this passage as my vision statement is
that we as Christians are to teach, baptize and be disciple makers. That is my goal personally
and professionally. This verse gets directly to Jesus calls us to do in “The Great Commission.”
I will put my main focus on the widowers, addicts, and the depressed and/or anxious. My
husband and I have a great deal of background in these areas. We were both widowers when we
met and my husband is addicted to porn and I am addicted to sex and food. We are doing a lot
better about reducing or absence of these things. I have experience in depression and anxiety. I

also have experience in dealing with the schizophrenia and bipolar. My daughter has those two
and it can sometimes be a handful.
I will also be looking at all ages, all demographics. All people need to be shown the love
of Jesus Christ. I watched the movie “The Shack” last night and in the movie it said something
on the line of: You should not judge anyone because you do not know their history and what
they may have gone through to get the way they are.1 My main focus to get these people to hear
the Word of the Lord is to show love. People need to be shown love and love is the key to
succeed in this world. People need to know that they are loved and cared about no matter what
they have done in their past. A lot of people have the wrong idea about Christians. They think
that we are all hypocrites. There are hypocrites that claim to be Christians, but we are not all
hypocrites, especially the true Christians.
My main region I will be focusing on will this community I live in, Country Squire
Lakes, Indiana.2 It is rather large and sad to say we have too many drug dealers and meth labs
here. Which is rather dangerous since most of the homes here are mobile homes. This
community was created for a retirement community, but now anybody can live here and does.
We are just now seeing groups coming in here and servicing this community. However, this
area is large and there are many people that need to be reached.
Another area is the surrounding rural areas, like Scipio and Queensville. There are very
few churches in the Queensville and Scipio areas. Of course, these two areas do not have as
many residents as North Vernon or even Vernon. But, like I said before all people need to know
the love of God and his unending grace and mercy.

Values
Some instances of core values; dependable, honest, loyal, dedicated, reliable, efficient,
loving, nurturing and respectful. The core values will be the heart of what the church wishes to
be. The core values will be the values that the church has and its ethics that direct them. It can be
believed that one view of the core values will be how the church will conduct itself.3 However,
the true core value will be shown by how it conducts itself inside the building and in the public.
A verse that comes to mind when I think of values is “Do for others what you want them to do
for you” (Luke 6:31, ERV). This one of the verses is what the golden rule is based on: “Do unto
others as you would have do unto you.”
There are many verses I could quote that deal with Christian values. However, when a
church embarks on disciple making, they must be clear of what a disciple of Jesus Christ actually
looks like. There are three main values that describe a disciple. They must be sacrificed. In other
words, they must must submit to by surrendering their will and follow Him no matter the cost.
They must be relational. This means They realizes that love is the trademark of followers of
Christ and love for God, love for neighbor, and love for other disciples is a very significant
component of the value scheme of a disciple.4
Those who accept Christ as their Lord and Savior are changed through the process of
conversion— including turning from sin (repentance) to total reliance upon Christ (saving faith).
The change involved in conversion takes hold in one’s life and rapidly becomes clear in how one
lives. Those who are converted to Christ are changed by God in their external character and their

internal value system.5 A true Christian will show love to their fellow man in many ways, by
serving, by helping, by caring, by accepting, by listening and so many other ways. When we
show love to one another we are able to do what Jesus has commanded us to do, become fishers
of men.
Views
A lot rides on how we view God and His influences. Is he the old man upstairs, who does
not care what we do or is he the mean kid who is just waiting on us to make a mistake so he can
punish us. I feel he is my father who teaches me from right and wrong and if I make a mistake
disciplines me so I will learn the correct path to take.6 I feel that the most important ministry
viewpoints are: honesty, loyalty, reliability, and being respectful. When one sees us, we should
be the same on inside as we are on the outside, do not be a phony or a hypocrite. If we are
hypocrites, people will not be able to trust us that what we say, we mean. There are too many
hypocrites out there already. One of the many reasons people will not attend a church or even
read the Bible is because they think we are all phonies. If we show people that we truly care
about them, then that is the first step into them trusting us to show them and tell them the truth.
Being loyal and dependable goes hand in hand, they are both important viewpoints. It is
when we show that we are loyal or dependable, that people can trust us and know that when we
say we are going to do something that it will done. There is not enough loyalty in this world, so
let us show them that we, Christians are truly loyal and dependable. It says it best in the Bible:

“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient and accept each other with love. You are
joined together with peace through the Spirit. Do all you can to continue as you are,
letting peace hold you together. There is one body and one Spirit, and God chose you
to have one hope. There is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. There is one God and
Father of us all, who rules over everyone. He works through all of us and in all of us”
(Ephesians 4:2-6, ERV).
Let us look at the areas of a church. The first one is a pastor. What is a pastor? A pastor is
the shepherd of the flock, congregation. They are in a leadership/supportive position. They
counsel us, perform weddings and funerals, teach us, and guide us to what we should be doing.
However, they should not have to perform all functions of the church. They are not the only one
that should be reaching the lost. However, it is the pastor’s job to train/teach us about how we
should do it along with God’s Word.
The second area is the church. What is a church? A church is a building in which people
gather together to praise, worship God. Where they are trained to be disciple makers. Where
there is love and fellowship with their fellow man. It is also the body of Christ. In order for the
body of Christ to be healthy the church must be healthy.
The third area is the saints. What are the saints? A saint can be several things but what I
consider to be a saint is a Christian or a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ. A saint is also who has
been called home to heaven. Yes, we do not know who has made it through the golden gates of
heaven and who will spend eternity in hell, but the saints are those that will get to spend eternity
with our Lord and Savior.
The fourth area is the gospel. What is the gospel? I believe the gospel is our Holy Bible.
Yes, there are many translations of the Bible, but each one says basically the same thing. It is just
easier for some to read a different version. But each version tells about the glory, grace, mercy,
and holiness of God.

The fifth area is the evangelism. What is evangelism. Evangelism is when one spreads
the Christian gospel by preaching to the public. Evangelism is very important, but it must be
biblical in nature, it entails the teaching of the gospel first and foremost, it’s aim is to persuade
the listener to do something, and it is secured by unity and love.7
The sixth area is discipleship. What is discipleship? Who can be a disciple? A disciple is a
follower of Christ. A disciple of Jesus is a person who:
•is becoming spiritually mature,
•cares for the lost,
•doing life with others,
•loves the poor and relegated in Jesus’ name,
•has come to understand what honesty is and being blessed so that he lives
differently in the world, and
•worships God with their resources and energy.8
The ultimate goal of any church should be to produce disciples who produce disciples. That
is what the Great Commission is all about. Jesus commands us to go become fishers of men.
Finally the last area is leader/leadership. What is a leader? What is leadership? Every
person has their own definition of a leader/leadership. The Bible’s definition of a leader is: they
are to be above criticism, self regulated, upright, the husband of one wife, not given into
intoxication, and like.9 Authority is willingly recognized by another when there is strong trust in
the leader. Where trust has been established and has been reliable, people will be content to

accept the authority of a leader.10 When the leader holds the trust card with someone, they are
able to present assistance, directions, and recommendations that are accepted quickly. Loyalty is
essentially evident. If there is no trust, then people will not accept the directions from the leader
with loyal hearts. But if there is no trust or loyalty then people will generally try to evade the
instruction, ignore the leader's direction, and make the necessity stressed by the leader less
important. It all comes down to proven trust.11
Being a leader is sometimes a tough job because some days you could be leading only a
few and at other times you could be leading a crowd. I just want people to see that the true
person that they should follow at all times, is our Lord and Savior.
Vehicles
The first vehicle is the structure that I will use to develop disciples. The church or
organizational structure that I plan to use at first I plan to have it start in my home and as it grows
to rent a room or use our pravillion that CSL has on its property. I hope to eventually get into a
small building to be the base of operations. I know the church is not a building, but one needs a
building to be its base of operation.
The second vehicle is my small group philosophy. I believe small groups are essential
if we are to make disciple makers. Small groups are the best way to reach people and make
relationships with them. When there are small relational groups it can help with the learning
process, the training process and getting to know someone and help them when it is necessary.

In Genesis 2:18, “Then the LORD God said, “I see that it is not good for the man to be
alone. I will make the companion he needs, one just right for him.”12 God does not want to be
alone, creating small relational groups allows to do just be a companion/friend to our fellow
human being.
The third vehicle will the calendar of events. I plan on having Sunday School, morning
worship service, evening service, and Wednesday night Bible study. The Wednesday night
Bible study will be small group oriented. I am hoping that it will grow to the place we will have
to break off in more small groups. I would love it if we had Bible study in each other’s homes.
Meeting in homes is more personal, and allows for people to open up and connect with each
other.
I also plan on a fellowship meal once a month, this will allow the members to connect
and create relations as a larger group. I am also hoping to have a men’s and women’s group that
again will meet in the member’s homes. I also plan to do some outreach such as: visiting the
nursing home and the sick, and occasionally have outdoor services. My current church has an
occasional outdoor service and that seemed to connect to more individuals than our regular
indoor service.
The fourth vehicle is the personnel and budget. I am hoping that at first I can get people
to volunteer to do the functions inside and outside the church building. Then, as we grow, look
into hiring or paying the current volunteers to do the functions. I am leaving the monetary
portion in the hands of the Lord.
The fifth vehicle is the curriculum. I plan to pray each day before I teach to know what
Jesus will have me teach or preach to my congregation. However, one subject I plan to stress is

that Jesus has commanded us to go teach others about Jesus and baptize them in the name of the
Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. I know not everyone will become a disciple maker, but my goal
is to baptize believers and to teach them all that Jesus and God.
The sixth vehicle is slogans or mottos. I think the best slogan is something easy to
remember. Take the slogan “Just do it” everyone knows it is Nike shoes and the slogan “Melts
in your mouth not your hands” that is M & M’s. Since my goal is to win the lost to Jesus, I think
my slogan will be something like “Helping You Find Your Way Back to God”. It is catchy and
it tells you exactly what the goal is at my church.
The seventh and final vehicle is communication. I am very tech savvy, so I will make use
of this skill to get the word out about my church, their events, and the most important is reaching
those that will not come into a church building because of any false belief. There are so many
ways I get the word out and reach my congregation and the lost. There is email, texting,
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and simply creating a church website. However, for those that not
tech savvy or do not own a smart phone or computer, I will send letters, flyers using a mailing
list or the phone book.
Verifiers
What will the verifiers that I will use to track or measure my success of this plan? I will
use the Win/Grow/Send. What I mean is that I will track the success of the growth of small
groups and leadership training. The more small groups that develop will tell me the word is
getting out to our community. In addition, the more people that need to be trained to be leaders of
these small groups will show me that more people are becoming disciple makers. I do not really
care about the numbers that attend the main worship service, it is the size of the Sunday School
classes, and the size of the Bible study groups that will be my focus.

Jesus devoted in His small group of close followers in a profoundly personal way as a
friend not an instructor. He did not produce mass crowds of followers. He trained a few and they
became the leaders of the early church.13 “The Word of God increased; and the number of the
disciples multiplied exceedingly Acts 6:4, 7.”14 I believe that when the Word of God is spread
there will be multiplication.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my disciple making plan is to spread the Word of our Lord and Savior,
we will have a multiplication of disciple makers. CSL is a rural area in desperate need of God’s
Word. I do not even let my grandchildren run around here because I am afraid of the bad
influences that they will come across.
However, if they can see the love of Jesus through me then I can spread the Word to my
community. This world is becoming a dangerous place. But, my main goal is to follow my
mission statement which is basically: “So go and make followers of all people in the world.
Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey
everything that I have told you to do. You can be sure that I will be with you always. I will
continue with you until the end of time” (Matthew 28:19-20, ERV). This says it all.
