The history of Black Churches in America dates all the way back to the 1700’s (""The
Black church in America," a brief history," 2020). The African American Registry provides
summarized historical events that have taken place throughout the history of the Black Church. I
felt it was important to understand how far back the black church history goes when it comes to
supporting and uplifting the black community. The Black church has always been looked at as a
light in the black community during some of their darkest times of oppression, slavery,
segregation, lynching, and so many other detestable acts. The church has managed somehow in
the midst of everything going on, including fires, and homemade bombings of their own
institutions to be the leader and support system for the black people and especially during The
Great Migration. The Great Migration was a time where churches in the North were being
greatly influenced by the culture of the black churches in the South. During this time they took
on one major role which played a major factor in the overall success of the migration and that
was committing to helping the blacks from the South transition to their “new life” in the North,
where many more opportunities were forthcoming and available.
The church scene in the North was heavily influenced by the culture of black churches in
the South during the migration. In the south where blacks were still dealing with Jim Crow Laws,
they were use to a much smaller, close knit, family unit setting when it came to church, full of
