Responding to the Poor

How people deal or provide for the poor is often a very controversial debate. Many see
that everyone has the opportunity to provide for your own self, so if you are rich, you are rich,
and if you are poor your poor and that is all there is to it. While on the other hand, there is the
group that thinks everyone should be giving to the poor. Just like many other topics, this one also
depends on the situation.
Personally, I believe that the state can put forth help to help those that are poor for those
with reasonable explanations of why they are in that position. However, for those that do not
work just because they are lazy, I believe that they do not any deserve and financial help from
the state. For those who are living in poverty, I believe it is my duty as a Christian to do what I
can to help them in any way possible because the Lord says He will bless me for it. “He that hath
pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord, and that which he hath given will he pay him again”
(Proverbs 19:17). I believe it is also important that we remember that those living in poverty or
are poor, are also humans too and they should be treated the same as we would want to be
treated. As Easter is coming up, it reminds me of how Jesus showed us the perfect example of
this act. On Palm Sunday when he came to Jerusalem, He came on a donkey and sat with the
poor and the children. The King of the World that could have had any type of entrance that he
wanted to, chose to have one like that.
Overall, it is important to remember as Christians that we should seek the ultimate
guidance from the Lord, and constantly be thankful that we can live the wonderful life with
everything that he has given us that we take for granted daily.
