After viewing the presentation, we learn that during this time and era, almost ALL
religions were tolerated by the Roman empire. All religions except Christianity that is. Instead of
tolerating the Christians and their beliefs the Romans would mistreat them and persecute them.
Attacking them on the Faith they had in God. The Romans did not agree with the beliefs of the
Christians. The Romans did not agree that the Bible was God’s word. When the rise of
Christianity began the Christians believed and lived by the writings of the Bible, much like how
we as Christian’s are today. The Christians did not agree with the Romans rules and how they
worshipped Caesar and the Roman gods. Caesar as well as the Romans found and thought this to
be treason among him and the Roman empire. Because of this the Romans culture and the
Christian culture clashed and caused much conflict. The Romans would often persecute the
Christians by “throwing them to the beast”. This meant they were thrown to the big arena to feed
the lions because they as Christians believed differently than the Romans and Caesar. The
romans felt that one who thought themselves to be Christian looked down and thought they were
better than others. Caesar was the ruler during this time, the Romans his followers. Caesar and
the Romans were considered very selfish. The Christian’s were the opposite. The Christians
believed that love and happiness came from following and worshipping God. The Christians also
believed that only God could deliver justice, as the Romans believed they were the ones who
oversaw bringing justice during this time. They thought they were the rulers and that no one was
above them. Ultimately, this was the reasoning for the fall of the roman empire.
