Title: Design and Enforce a Web-Based Online Airline Reservation System
2
Introduction
The goal of the project is to design and implement a web-based Airline Reservation
System. The project will be implemented using a three-tier architecture: JSP,
JavaServlets, MySQL database, and the Apache Tomcat server.
The primary purpose is to allow passengers to add, edit, and delete flight bookings. When
a passenger visits the website for the first time, they can register their information as part
of the flight booking process. The passenger will be given login information after
registration to make changes to existing bookings or make new bookings in the future.
Airport staff will also have login information.
Passengers can check-in via self-service check-in, and airport staff can provide full-
service check-in. Additionally, a list will be created showing passengers with overweight
luggage for business and economy class, as well as a combined list for both classes.
Present Systems
Research has been made into the existing automated Aironline system used by Malaysia
Airlines, called Kommas. Kommas is a DOS-based system used for ticket reservation for
more than 25 years. The system has been upgraded four times and is used for reservation
and check-in for passengers.
The Kommas system has advantages such as displaying flights offered by other companies
in Malaysia and overseas. It allows users to make reservations, check departure times,
3
and offers features like arranging special requirements and selecting specific seats.
However, the system has limitations, including the lack of user-friendly interfaces,
reliance on memorizing codes for reservations, and security issues, as it lacks password
protection.
Why Aironline Reservation System is Needed?
An Aironline Reservation System is subjected to many benefits, including an increase in
ticket sales, a reduction in cost and time, and more organized data.
The proposed approach involves using a Waterfall model, dividing the project into stages
such as initiation and planning, literature review, analysis and design, prototype and
report, system design, testing, and final documentation and testing evaluation.
