Summary
In today’s world, a lot of people now own more electronics than they did a decade ago
with the world going in a technology-driven future means we have more of our important
documents, bank statements and other private information we are putting onto databases and
online cloud storage through our mobile devices. We access a majority of this information
through our cell phones, tablets, and other devices that we own, doing so we expose ourselves to
a risk of our data being breached and taken by hackers and others. In the study by Alsudiary
(2014) investigates the importance and business life of Information and communication
technology within mobile devices and the rising security risks within them.
Today a lot of business now are contacting their customers through mobile applications
and a good amount of transactions are being completed on the applications too. The largest of the
risks that come with using these mobile applications is the risk of a data breach on the businesses
side of the app allowing hackers to have access to your information if it is not well encrypted and
secured. Although there are a lot more ways attacks can be carried out than just data breaches.
For example, Alsudiary (2014) talks about how mobile devices are susceptible to DoS attacks,
eavesdropping, data breaches, and faulty key management vulnerabilities.

Results
As seen in Alsudiary’s research mobile technology it still has many issues today and
multiple vulnerabilities there is a lot of room for improvement in the infrastructure of the
applications. There are a few ways we can work to mitigate the current risks that are affecting
different mobile applications such as having increased security, minimalizing backdoors in the
programs. Users of these programs can also minimalize the chances of getting in the middle of
attacks by keeping up to date with their latest software and always downloading trusted
applications to ensure they are not downloading anything malicious. Stanescu (2015) Security
breaches that against a user rather than against a company have been found to be from users
downloading applications and visiting sites that can download and place malware on their mobile
devices, a popular way of this being done is via Bluetooth technology. Stiakakis, Georgiadis,
Andronoudi (2015) With many of the risks being privacy risks such as sensitive data being the
best way for security teams to combat these attackers is by studying attacks and constantly
making changes to the multi-layered security ecosystem.
Discussion
The study that was conducted by Alsudiary and many others shows that we have a long
road ahead of us in mitigating the risks of having our mobile devices and the applications that we
use on a day to day basis to secure and become better prepared to fight different attacks and
malware that try to steal our information. With time we will learn more about these
vulnerabilities and become better at preventing them, although with time the malicious attacks
and malware will also improve making the goal to have our private information secure an
impossible task to complete. For now, the best way of mitigating the risks is to be cautious on

websites that you use while on your mobile devices and the applications that you download that
could be dangerous and possibly cause a data breach or other complications and become up to
date on security and stay informed on any new vulnerabilities that could potentially target your
mobile devices and the applications that you use.
