Abstract
The Gap Theory. What exactly is Gap Theory? The purpose and intent of this paper is to inform
the reader of differentiating viewpoints which explain Gap Theory. I will reference multiple book
authors, opinions, web sources and of course the Bible. I will also discuss the young-Earth
creation viewpoint which many accept and follow. I am blessed to have experienced this course.
The course settled me down and required me to open my mind up to other points of views that I
would’ve immediately dismissed otherwise. Prior to this class I’d never heard of Gap Theory, (2)
Earths (old, young) nor have I ever heard any discussions about them. Therefore, I will attempt
to keep the tone of the paper purely informational rather than a personal opinionated standpoint.

Gap Theory: A basic understanding explained.
Approximate year 1900, Thomas Chalmers (1780-1847), a theologian from Scotland, and
founder of the Free Church of Scotland. Is credited for the popularity of Gap Theory. To put it
very simply Gap Theory is the time it took God between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. From the
creation of the heavens and the Earth to the actual description of how God formed the Earth into
what we now know it to be, land masses, creatures, plant life, bodies of water, etc. The classic
Gap Theory says that there was 1st a bungled creation between these (2) biblical verses (Gen 1:1,
Gen 1:2) during which all the dinosaurs, prehistoric animals may have existed and where we find
fossil remains from. This is also where a flood some call “Lucifer’s Flood” occurred and where
Lucifer and his followers rebelled against God and was cast out of Heaven (Isaiah 14; Ezekiel
28). Before going into the 2nd verse where God re-started creation all over again.
