Abstract
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is an effective therapy model for family and marriage counseling.
This paper will walk through the efficacy of CBT when used in family and marriage therapy.
Despite a decline in the number of marriages, there is a growing need for family and marriage
counseling. We will address the history and key figures in the development of CBT as well as
key concepts and philosophies. We will also discuss similarities and differences with other
therapy modalities and the potential for integrating another therapy with CBT. Informing
research about Cognitive Behavior Therapy, this study shows that CBT is an often-practiced
therapy which yields positive results. This paper will also examine how faith can be integrated
into the counseling process.
