Problems
1. “Adjustment Disorder, with mixed anxiety and depressed mood, acute” (APA, 2013)-
(principal)- Has been experiencing occupational changes over the last three months
that have led to symptoms of headaches, fatigue, low moods, irritability, anxiety,
distractibility, withdrawal from family, difficulties adjusting to change, nervousness,
and unhappiness
2. Acculturational difficulty- Presents with ongoing pressures to conform to “the inner
circle” (Liberty University, 2024), increased alcohol consumption, increased stress,
increased feelings of not belonging or being out of place with the “white country club
culture” (Liberty University, 2024).
3. Other problems related to employment, including job change, reduction in job hours,
or even the threat of job loss.” Fears future job loss as plant manager due to changes
at work and furloughs (APA, 2013).
Goals for Change
1. Adjustment Disorder, with mixed anxiety and depressed mood, acute

Develop and process an alternative plan for pursuing a new vocation in the
potential event of job loss.
Plan and prioritize based on job status; seek helpful resources.
Enhance communication with spouse concerning any concerns associated with
employment and father-in-law.
Objectives & Therapeutic Interventions
The client will undergo 12-15 individual cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) sessions. CBT is
an effective therapy that uses various cognitive, behavioral, and emotion-focused techniques
to enhance functioning and reduce symptoms and can be applied to a diverse population and
targets multiple stressors. (Domhardt & Baumeister, 2018).
1. Adjustment Disorder mixed with Anxiety and Depressed Mood acute
The client will discuss their thoughts and emotions regarding changes at work, as
well as the culture of their colleagues and employer.
The counselor will provide information on common symptoms like fatigue, low

mood, irritability, and anxiety to the client.
The therapist will establish a strong therapeutic alliance with the patient to ensure
trust and effectiveness.
The counselor will use the cognitive conceptualization diagram to help the client
identify ineffective coping strategies.
The client will evaluate their current lifestyle and analyze how their personality
dynamics impact his life.
The client will address and correct hindering values, beliefs, and emotions to
improve functionality.
The counselor will offer psychoeducational sessions to provide knowledge and
understanding about various cultural backgrounds.
The client will engage in enjoyable activities and prioritize self-care weekly.
The client will actively and effectively identify and engage in behaviors that
promote wellness to prevent the possibility of relapse.
The counselor will provide supportive sessions as needed to prevent relapse into
negative emotions.
2. Acculturation Difficulty
The client will discuss their acculturation difficulties and social-relational
orientation with the counselor.
The client will collaborate with the counselor to overcome acculturation
difficulties.
The counselor and the client will engage in a collaborative process to establish a
sense of normalcy around differences in cultural backgrounds.
The client will utilize a thought log to restructure maladaptive thoughts and core
beliefs.

The counselor will provide psychoeducational services to raise clients' awareness
of how perceived symptoms and vocational stress can be interrelated.
The counselor will educate the client on how cultural beliefs can influence
perceptions of work and responsibilities.
The counselor will assist the client in processing negative feelings related to job
loss and work-related pressures.
The client will identify the main job-related challenges causing their negative
emotions.
The client will use tools to relieve their symptoms collaboratively and with
encouragement.
Outcome Measures of Change
Presence of enhanced positive behaviors, thoughts, improved mood, positive engagement in
pleasurable activities with family and colleagues, and increased social interest and activeness
(Marco et al., 2021).
The client experienced fewer negative feelings and behaviors, more pleasure
activities, and fewer stress-related issues.

The client's presence of family isolation has decreased, and they are better at
managing stressors and responsibilities.
The client has reported that they have made considerable progress in their ability
to display patience and tolerance when it comes to adapting to the cultural
nuances of the work environment.
Client reports cordial understanding with father-in-law and mutual respect.
