Gender – Female Marital Status – Divorced
Employment status - Employed
Presenting Problem
Joanne was referred to counseling because she has been experiencing depression for a
very long time. In addition, she has attempted to commit suicide three times. Joanne has caused
self-harm by slicing her wrist and experienced an overdose two times. Joanne has a satisfying
and very stressful job, and she finds herself working 60-70 hours a week. Outside her job, Joanne
has indicated that she sees a psychiatrist once a month that prescribes her medication. When it
comes to her taking her medication, she is not compliant. Joanne has one 13-year-old daughter
from her past marriage. Ten years ago, Joanne got a divorce because while being married, her
husband admitted that he was homosexual. Seven years ago, Joanne had an affair with her
sister’s husband, and because of her feeling guilty, she ended it, but he continued to pursue her.
Joanne came unexpectedly to the counseling center, and as a result of being questioned, she had a
gun and was going for a drive.
Precipitating Event
Joanne has several precipitating events that have occurred in her life. She has suffered
from a long history of depression. Joann has suffered two episodes of overdose and has sliced her
wrist. Joanne works 60 to 70 hours in a highly stressful job. Joanne is not compliant in taking
