Types of Reliability and Validity
Reliability is assessed using two types of measurements according to the Values and
Motives Questionnaire (VMQ). One of the assessments related to the scores to the stability of the
scale score over a period. The other assessment focuses on the homogeneity of the test. VMQ
defines homogeneity as internal consistency or the state similarity of all that constitutes the items
that form the scale score. Validity is measured in two different ways also. One way validity is
measured is construct validity in which the consistency and extent of the test are assessed. This is
done by comparing the scores of each test to the other and assessing the similarities. Another
way validity is measured according to VMQ is criterion validity. Using criterion validity allows
the examiner to compare, prove, and demonstrate how the test scores are similar. Validity and
reliability ensure and determines if the psychometrics of a test are solid. What Makes a Good
Test (n.d.) mentions that reliability measures a value, however, it does not guarantee the test’s
information is valid. The validity on the other hand does measure the data or values to see if the
test is valid.
