FINAL TOPIC SELECTION ASSIGNMENT
Topic Selection: Final Topic Selection Assignment
Final Topic of Interest: How can mindfulness techniques and coping skills reduce negative
emotions about childbirth during pregnancy?
Gap Statement: According to Kuo et al. (2022),
“Future studies should include measures of levels of support, symptoms of anxiety or
depression, and dispositional mindfulness to assess the influence of support partners.”
(Kuo et al., 2022, p. 8).

controlled trial. Midwifery, 113, 103438. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.midw.2022.103438
This research article examines how mindfulness techniques can reduce any fear and anxiety of
pregnant women and their partners. These techniques can be easily used during
childbirth.
Variables To Be Measured
Qualitative Research Strategy: This research topic is suitable for a phenomenology approach
because it will examine participants' personal experiences. The focus of this research is pregnant
women who experience fear, anxiety, and depression about childbirth and if applied coping skills
and mindfulness techniques help reduce negative emotions before, during, and after childbirth.

Cultural Consideration: Numerous factors influence pregnancy and negative emotions about
childbirth. Some of these fears may come from general fear and worry, stories or experiences
from family members, friends, or the general public, and any other factors that might raise stress
levels such as any medical issues during pregnancy. Since these fears and worries are quite
common during pregnancy, some cultures may disregard these emotions and neglect coping
practices and mindfulness techniques. This is important to consider because it may affect how
expecting mothers perceive their mental health during and after childbirth.
