Abstract
Though there has been much research conducted on the relationship between sexual orientation,
gender identity, and suicide, there is still much more to be completed. There has been a known
connection for many years, but not much research that can pinpoint a direct relation between
these things. The research proposal below hopes to help by shedding more light on the
connection between these. The following proposal asks the question of the connection between
lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals and suicide using a phenomenological approach by
using self-reported surveys to conduct the research. This research will have implications of the
future of the counseling field and should help future counselors in their decision making when it
comes to treatment plans for their clients.
