ENTWISTLE REVIEW 1
Entwistle Review
Summary
Entwistle describes six alternative models of integrating theology and psychology in his
book "Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity: An Introduction to Worldview
Issues, Philosophical Foundations, and Models of Integration" in chapters 8 through 11.
Professional counseling uses a variety of models, which form the basis of the counseling process.
Allies, colonialists, rebuilders, antagonists, spies, and neutral parties are all represented in
Entwistle's models. However, theology stresses Scripture as the primary source of knowledge
while examining history, archeology, philosophy, and other fields; there are also times when the
two are not comparable. Psychology, on the other hand, gathers information through disciplines,
logic, and observation.
Entwistle provides a general review of the models and some comparisons throughout the
eighth chapter. "A comparison of different viewpoints allows for a process of mutual critique that
may help us detect flaws in psychological interpretation or theological interpretation," writes
Entwistle at the end of the chapter (Entwistle, 2015, p. 188). Entwistle explains that the various
representations show how people interpret the Bible's teachings about humanity (Entwistle,
2015). The models' final objectives also vary. Entwistle links "worldview" and "models” because
people often let their worldviews or perceptions determine how they view psychology and
religion. He explains how even though there are different plane models; all planes overall fly the
same.
