Yes, I think I’m
looking forward
to it. And other
recovery
processes limit
myself to these
things, but I will
use that time to
study and relax.
And spend time
with my family.
Yeah, it sounds
like this would
be a good time
to actually take
care of yourself
and put you first
for once instead
of worrying
about your team
and everything
that's going on
there and trying
to manage all of
the things
without any
help.
Most people are
not looking
forward to the
recovery
process, so can
you tell me
about you
looking forward
to that time and
about how much
stress it is
causing you for
you want
recovery from
surgery as a
break.
I think my
response was
more of a
summary and I
should have dug
deeper into why
and to explain
why she is going
through so much
that surgery is
something she is
looking forward
to when that's
not the normal.

Six weeks.
How are you
feeling about
taking the break
away from all of
this?
Tell me about
what taking a
break from
everything will
look like for you
and the feelings
you have about
this.
I asked a
question and in
this case the
question was not
necessary. I
could have left it
open for the
client to tell me
more about how
the break will
go, what it
would look like
for her, and how
she is feeling
about it.

In fact. So who’s
gonna end up
suffering? Will
be my team.
And then you're
taking this break
for, what, six
weeks?
I can see that
you are worried
about your team
and how things
will go without
you there but tell
me about your
feelings
I should have
not asked how
long the break
was that was
surface level but
I should have
gone deeper and
asked about the

associated with
you leaving your
team.
feelings she had
and how leaving
her team was
going to affect
her since she
only talked
about how it
would affect
them.

To be able to
focus on what I
can control and
don't, let this
stress or they'll
feel
overwhelmed
for things that I
cannot control
like. I just gonna
breathe and take
one minute at a
time instead of
trying to rush
against the clock
and trying to do
20 things when I
can only do 5.
Yeah, I think
that would be a
really good
place to pick up
next time. It's a
really good goal.
We are running
out of time in
this session but I
hear that you are
feeling stressed,
overwhelmed,
and having loss
of control, but I
am glad you
have this goal in
place and we
will work
towards you
better being able
to manage these
emotions
moving forward.
Instead of just
cutting it off and
leaving it
hanging after
she was talking
about how she
was feeling. I
should have
acknowledged
those feelings
and praised the
fact she has a
good goal she is
working
towards.

Umm so yes, I did
get to talk to him.
There was an
employee that was
sick. Umm. She
they're gonna do
some procedures.
Uh. On her end,
she’ll be out for like
six months. Which
puts us in a bind
because she was 40
hours. So we are
very short, only
working Monday,
Wednesday and
thursday. She goes
to school Tuesday
and Thursday so she
can not work. So
Well, I'm glad you
got it out. That's
good. Yeah,
definitely sounds
like when you try
to share your
feelings with your
boss of being
overwhelmed. Uh,
he took it as you
need to get some
help and not as.
Supporting you
First off, at some
point I should
have interrupted
at some point to
get feelings
instead of just
the facts of what
was going on in
this situation.
So, when I did
reflect It should
have talked
about how the
situation was
making her feel,
and the struggles
she was having
I can see that
interrupting can
be important. I
wanted to let her
finish and get all
of her thoughts
out but that
could have
happened if I
interrupted.
When I reflected
I just reflected
the staff
members and
not the clients or
emotions or
everything that
COUC 505
that puts us really
short and the other
seller has umm full
time. But she’s been
with the company
for 30 years, so she
has all this vacation
time which is ok she
earned it. But I’ve
been trying to get
this other teller like
now for a month so
the process is taking
longer than I
anticipated. So I did
get to talk to my
boss on Wednesday.
In one of the
conversations that
we had was ah, she
said that it kind of
made me feel like a
little bit upset or uh,
feel like it's unfair. I
don't even mention
that last time, but I
was talking to
another manager
and she told me you
should not be a
teller because you
pulled yourself out.
Risk like when does
the coach get into
the game like you
have to? You
cannot. Should not
put yourself out
there for many
reasons. So, and
she's like, I will
never do that. And
I'm like, OK, well is
that or are to close
the doors and I don't
want to close the
doors, right,
because we're
serving our
community
whatever. So when
I'm talking to my
boss, he told me
ohm. He told me
that, OK, so I'm
and supporting you
with staff that can
actually be there.
So it sounds like
the staff member,
they gave you a
has other
obligations for
things that she
wants to do, but
she's not gonna be
much help.
especially since
she has been
holding all of
this in and just
need to let it out
but did not do so
before so
figuring out
why, the
problems
associated
around this and
how she can
better control
her emotions on
a daily biases.
was going on
because it was to
much and should
have interjected
earlier.
COUC 505
gonna open. But I'm
going to have to
open and leave the
drive to close. And
he's like, but why?
And I'm like
because if I open it,
that means I'm
going to be the
teller upfront the
whole day with no
breaks, no nothing.
So, he was
expecting me to do
that, but the
expectation with
other managers is
not the same. So
anyway, The thing
is that when we talk
on Wednesday,
Umm, we
brainstorm. Like
what type of help I
was going to have
and the help that I
was going to have is
that this manager is
new from training
but she wasn't
before my banker.
So I developed her
to be a manager
now, but she just
finished training.
And then she will
be kind of like a
floater. And he said,
well, you can have
this person. You
know, like talk to
her and see what
days she can cover.
So when I talk to
him, he comes to
the office and he's
like, well, I don't
know. I have to say
that you are. You
get very
overwhelmed,
easily, easily and
then I don't know if
you can umm, you
know what I want
COUC 505
you to get sick. I
think that you
should seek help
like you know to
check EAC, EAC's
are employees.
Advising
consulting, like, in
other words, go and
talk to a counselor.
Umm, because you
know when you get
stressed, you, you
UM, get
overwhelmed and
all that. And I'm
like. Well, verse of
all like I'm talking
to you in a closed
door environment
because you're my
boss. I don't react
like this. One thing
is like if I was out
of control. In front
of the customers or
in my employees
was to say OK, like
I'm outta control, let
me go and seek
help. But if you're
my manager, I told
him. Like, well, you
like my dad. And
he's like, Ohh, thank
you. You're telling
me? Ohh, I'm like
no, I'm older than
you. However, what
I'm saying is you're
the authority person,
and if I need to vent
or share my
emotions and
frustrations, it will
be with you.
Because you're my
leader, right? So
who else can I talk
to that can give me
some ideas how to
fix this anyway? So
as I know, I know,
but I don't want you
to get sick. Blah
COUC 505
blah blah. So talk it
up with this
manager. That's
gonna help me. So
when I'm talking to
the manager on
Friday, because all
this was through the
week, I was the only
teller with another
teller all week long.
Umm. I marked the
days this day, this
day, these days, so
the other managers
like, OK, so let me
look at my calendar.
So she's looking at
her calendar. So like
well, this day I
cannot. This day I
cannot help it. I
have to cover
another bank and on
my way will you
cover another bank
if he tells me that
you're or help?
Well, no. But I was
going to be helping
there before and I'm
like, thinking, uh,
and then she's like,
ohh. And if I'm, I'm
helping. I'm not
going to be a banker
or a teller, but she's
just gonna be a
straight manager, so
I'm like, OK, but
you know what it
is? What it is like
and next Friday the
12, I'll be out. I'll be
out for six weeks
and I won't be
around like I won't
be here to make
decisions or do
three positions in
one like I do. Uh, I
don't want to have
to deal with that. So
I'm not going to
worry about it. And
COUC 505
then I left it at that
and then I was just
talking to my
husband. I was like.
If I worry too much,
I'm crazy and I need
Counseling help.
And then if I don't
worry and I know if
I say OK, I don't,
I'm gonna do
anything because in
two weeks, I'm not
gonna do, you
know, anything. Uh,
I'm not going to be
there. They're gonna
be like, oh, my God,
Janice didn't preplan
for her to be out,
and they didn't
leave the things set
for them. So I don't
know, it's a lose lose
situation. I don't
know. It was a lot,
but I took it out of
my system.
Any additional thoughts not captured above? What will you take away from this
assignment?
I noticed that I have a problem interrupting. I also feel that I use silence a lot when I need to say
more. I need to find a better balance of letting the clients share their feelings and getting
everything out as well as interrupting to be on the same page as the client, gain understanding,
and guide the conversation to best help the client. I feel like saying things to the client will better
understand and show the client that I am following what they are saying so I can make sure I am
getting everything, but I need to make sure I am not doing it too much so the client can still feel
heard, and get out everything that they want to get out. I can definitely improve in all videos
including this one but I found it very helpful to go back and watch the videos and being able to
COUC 505
have other people critique me was also helpful. With this assignment in particular I was able to
correct myself after the fact which is a lot easier and something I would like to continue even
when I am a counselor so I can constantly improve and never become complacent.
