Hi Amy,
Thank you for your presentation on practical instances of ethical violations and the
resultant disciplinary actions by the board in the state of Kentucky. I agree with you that the state
of Kentucky has exceedingly high cases of breach of ethics in the form of inappropriate
relationships. According to Audet (2011), professional counselors are not supposed to engage in
inappropriate relationships with their clients as it affects the effectiveness of their professional
services. It is rather shocking that professional counselors could breach their codes of ethics
through unnecessary associations with clients. I am particularly concerned because of the
potentially high number of unreported ethical violations within the state of Kentucky. While you
have accurately identified inappropriate relationships as ethical violations, your discussion
should have gone ahead to discuss ways of averting repeat breaches. Perhaps, you can include a
discussion on effective ways of reducing the potential for inappropriate relationship between
counselors and their clients.
Besides, the accurate identification of theft through fraudulent billing practice as an
ethical violation is also relevant. Indeed, the ACA code of ethics prohibits counselors from
engaging in fraudulent practices in the course of their practice (Audet, 2011). Your mastery of
the ACA principles is evident in your critical analysis of the actions of different counselors that
have been found in breach of ethical guidelines. I also agree with you in your observation
regarding the ineffectiveness of disciplinary action by the board. In particular, the decision to
suspend violators for only two years does not reverse the negative implications of their actions

on the victims and the community at large. If anything, these violators are likely to engage in
similar ethical violations upon resuming their practice.
