Sharon, thank you so much for a very informative discussion on this article. I took choose
to dive deeper into this article to see what the author really meant by the metaphor of a rusty
pot and you did a fantastic job explaining it. Unfortunately violence has been seen within our
countries for many generations and without sort of peace or understanding between these
different countries, violence will continue. Matthew 11:12 makes a great proclamation by stating
that “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence,
and the violent take it by force (ESV).
Just like you, the comment about the headmistresss response of we did not think it was
anything, only the boys raping the girls (Ortega, 2001, p. 389) shows just how much the work
has taken violence into their lifes and dismissed it as a horrible act. Knowing that you had to re-
read it shows just how taken back both you and I were to this vision. Although Ortega does
discuss a culture of peace and solidarity, the force of truth and the power of love to overcome
evil and obtain justice and reconciliation” (Tiger, 2018, paragraph 2) still seems to be a ways
away. To obtain that culture of peace though everyone needs to work as a team towards it and
this the constant wars and battles that are continuing all over the world, that seems less and less
truthful. Although, as Romans 15:13 writes may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope (ESV).
