Article Review: Chapter 14: Implementation of Track Two Diplomacy
Author Olga Botcharova elaborated on ways of dealing with contemporary conflicts more
efficiently. Botcharova believes that human calamities brought on by cultural conflicts are to a
substantial degree the effect of the international communitys disappointment to deliver political
guidance that has clear ideas, honest convictions, and political will. Along with that issue,
Botcharova believes certified international relations have mostly failed to reflect social-
psychological and divine methods in amity building. For example, she provided the Balkan
conflict as an illustration of how such traumatizing events was generally ignored.
For years, several consultants and specialists in conflict resolution was repeatedly
foreseeing risky advances in the then-existing circumstances in Kosovo, but the international
representatives selected first to disregard the counsels, then to turn their backs on the cultural
purging, and, lastly, to interfere with luxurious and incompetent military occurrences. With these
events happening, this would lead to a usual result which was a conflict unsettled. With that
being revealed, Botcharova presented several answers in the studies of contemporary conflicts
offered from the viewpoint of track two diplomacy.
With Botcharova looking over the studies, and going by her involvements of
peacemaking in provinces of unadorned conflict recommend that three main aspects block the
positive application of international peace policy. First, the failure to attend to the deep need for
healing from victimization of the parties in violent conflict. Next, a strategy that impose foreign
recipes for peace. Lastly, several strategies that appeal to the political hierarchy as the exclusive
decisionmakers. Botcharova explains each facet in detail to let the reader understand the problem
while providing the solution. Also, Botcharova also believes one should get in touch with their
spiritual guidance to resolve conflicts. She figures that if one has the love of God then they shall
be able to be guided on how to resolve conflicts. While this has a strong solution to the problem,
there are other aspects as well that gives this article strong relevance to conflicts.
The articles strength is pinpointing the problem of conflict resolution in international
policymaking. While providing the problem the author also provided examples of how such
conflicts happened, but never got resolved for long term. Botcharova details the international
policy peacemakers problem along with the anecdotes to back up their problems, which makes
the article more relevant.
While suggesting the problem another strong point is her integrating spirituality as one of
the key solutions to solving conflict resolution. When one has the foundation of God in their
soul, Botcharova believes that one can have the foundation of how to provide conflict resolution.
To have spirituality as a solution is a strong point to most papers when discussing conflicts. The
one weakness I believe should be altered is some of the comprehension of the solutions. Every
reader may not get what exactly you mean, so simplifying the words could be a better way.
The article relates to conflict management in the sense of the experiences of the conflict
management. The article provides several examples of conflict management, and how important
it is to not ignore the warning signs of conflict when managing them.
