Organization: Problem-Solution
Audience analysis: Mixed (black and white) mid 20s female, black mid 30s
female, early 40s white male.
Topic: Racism is a social problem that can be fixed if we all took the
time to learn about others background and treat one another
like we would want to be treated.
General Goal: To persuade my audience to _____ in response to this
presentation on racism.
Specific Goal: I want to inform my audience about the social problem of
racism and to persuade them that learning about others and
respecting other people’s differences is a good solution for this
problem for several reasons, one of which is the fact that this
solution, if successful, will promote servanthood and God’s
golden rule, which is something that God values according to
Scripture.
Introduction:
I. Get Attention
Imagine walking into an interview having all the right skills, education, and
experience that is needed for the job you are applying for. You are the most
qualified for the job than any other applicant but the deciding factor on
whether you get it is your racial background. Do you think that is right?
II. Establish Relevance
Racism is not limited to Black, White, Hispanic, or just to one specific race.
Any race can be discrimanted against.
III. Establish Credibility
I have personally been affected by racism but regardless of my own
transgressions, this is a social issue that can affect anyone. Therefore we need
to make the steps needed to get rid of racism.
IV. State the Thesis
Racism is a social problem that can be fixed if we all took the time to learn
about others background and treat one another like we would want to be
treated.

Preview Your Main Points
Racism in simple terms is a disagreement in certain values and backgrounds
that can lead to discrimination or prejudice against another of a different race.
The main ways to combat racism is by expanding your knowledge, respecting
others regardless of opinions or beliefs, and by treating someone how you
would want to be treated.
Body:
I. Main Point 1. The main reason for many disagreements is ignorance; racism is
no different. The ignorance that surrounds different racial backgrounds is
greater than one might think. When have you ever met someone from a
different culture and actually took the time to learn about their background
whether it be by asking them or actually researching their culture? Probably
never because I’m not talking about asking if the generic steretypes that
surround a race is true but actually asking about why they do certain things and
the meaning behind it. Many traditions and beliefs of different cultures are
misconstrued thus leading to people’s own opinions of what they think that race
is like. For example, in the Middle East pointing is offense. So, think about an
American pointing in the Middle East and someone takes it offensively and
now there is a disagreement because neither knew the background of the other.
II. Main Point 2. Social research says that the most frequent response Americans
make to a situation is to evaluate what they just saw or heard as right or wrong,
good or bad.1 This research shows that us as Americans automatically try to
indicate whether something is right or wrong in our beliefs or what we believe
as acceptable. Accepting someone’s differences is showing respect for them
and what they believe. The dogmatic persona that some of us hold leads to the
dsicrimation of others because we feel as other’s are inferior to us. Acceptance
of others is to proactively communicate respect and dignity to each human
being based on the fact that each is an image-bearer of God.2
Transition: “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to
bring praise to God.” 3
III. Main Point 3. Growing up my mom used to always tell my sister and I to treat
each other how we would want to be treated anytime we did something with

malice or out of anger towards the other. She told us this was God’s golden rule
and that he expresses this rule throughout the Bible. My mom was right God
expresses this rule numerous of times throughout the Bible over and over again.
Matthew 7:12 says “ So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also
to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”4 Luke 6:31 says, “Do to others as
you would have them do to you.”5 Galatians: 5:14 says, “The entire law is
fulfilled in a single decree: Love your neighbor as yourself.” 6God would not
express this rule multiple times if he did not believe it was important. God
speaks to us multiple times on how we treat others. So when it comes to the
discrimination and prejudice of others I don’t think he would agree. Passing
someone over for that job position because they were black, not wanting to sit
beside someone because they were white, or being rude to someone because
they are Mexcian is not okay and God is against it. God loves everyone and
wants us all to love one another and come together as one.
Conclusion:
I. Summarize Your Thesis and Main Points
In conclusion, racism is a social problem that can be fixed if we all took the
time to learn about others background and treat one another like we would
want to be treated. If we expand our knowledge, accept and respect others
beliefs, and follow God’s golden rule we could possibly end racism.
II. End with a Clincher The next time you meet someone different than you,
make sure that you are taking the time to understand them and not just writing
them off as inferior or the opposite of you.
