Christianity, at its deepest essence, is a practice of fellowship. It is the final command of
Jesus Christ before bodily leaving on this earth to go and make disciples. Therefore, it is no
surplice that despite the historical educational and political leadership, Christianity and the
gospel are at the center of it all. The applications of the teachings of the gospel in every aspect of
leadership are evident and are necessary in the world. It is clear in the gospel to the primary
followers of Christ Jesus, and it does not exclude the practice of leading others. This is reflected
in Acts 1:20, 15:22, and in the book of Romans 12:8, where the followers of Christ seek
understanding of faith and the application to the practice of eldership (Goldsworthy, 2006).
Leadership is reflected as simply another way that followers of Christ bring an additional aspect
of humanity under the submission of Jesus Christ. The gospel informs leadership in a number of
ways, both in the modern world and in the old testament. For instance, in the 21st century, there
is a lot of interest in the cultivation of leaders. Some of the attributes that are wanted include
behaviors, traits, and transactional. The leadership theories reflected in the modern era show
some form of anachronism to the scriptures. The thoughts align perfectly with the gospel and
Christian thought, like the theories of a servant and spiritual leadership. Leaders base their
approaches within the theories and inform them on the best directions they can take to ensure
that they practice fair leadership (Goldsworthy, 2006). According to the gospel of Christ, making
disciples requires faithfulness to God’s revelation that leads to the service of the King rather than
Kingdom building. This is the same quality required in modern leadership, where leaders are
required to be faithful to their followers.
1st Timothy 5:17, the scripture says that the leaders who direct the church's affairs are
worthy of double honor”. This forms the basis of leadership in the modern church, our homes,
and even different countries. Gifted leaders are a sign of the blessing on the church, and those

who do not know what they are doing are a sign of God’s Judgement. The gospel books have
helped the church understand leadership aspects in the old testament, and some examples include
that of Saul, Nebuchadnezzar, and other great leaders of the past. The bottom line is they all
suffered judgment because of their acts. However, those faithful to God like Daniel, and David,
among others, received the blessing, and the fruits of their leadership are reflected in their
success. 1st Timothy 5 is about compassion and Gospel Leadership. Good leaders care for those
with the greatest need and those with the greatest responsibility (Wall & Steele, 2012).
Leadership is based on these two major disciplines thought in the gospel. The gospel is important
in forming and informing leadership as reflected in the old testament and the modern world. It
tells us how elders, the congregation, and leaders in the society work together to honor Christ
Jesus and advance the gospel. It provides the guidance and the path to follow to become a good
leader and to support the weakest and those with the highest responsibility.
