Critique of two articles
The two articles have been chosen on the theme of police ethnocentricity, subculture, and
historical evolution. The articles are "Police ethics and integrity: Keeping the 'blue code of
silence” by (Westmarland and Convey, 2020) and “On creating ethical, productive, and durable
research partnerships with police officers and their departments: a case study of the National
Justice Database" by (Kerrison et al., 2019). Both the articles have discussed the integrity of
policing in society and its historical evolution.
The strength of the former article includes the wide depth of research and the quantitative
research. A large sample size of 1500 police officers was selected to study the beliefs about the
seriousness of reporting and to keep the silence of the public. The author has significantly
researched the topic and has analyzed the findings through the responses of police officers.
The strengths of the second article include the methodology chosen by the author. He has
chosen the case study research design for the study, and it was observed that the national justice
database was evaluated. It has been observed that the safety protocols were insufficient in the
past, so the researcher has done wide research on the topic and tried to find out the gaps in
policing.
Though both the authors tried to deliver the messages effectively and efficiently, there are
some weak points in the researches. First, the timeline to conduct the research was limited in
both articles. It has been observed that the author tried to take the maximum sample size, but
ethics in policing is a serious issue and is a general concern.

The authors have further discussed the limited topics, and all the gaps have not been
covered. So, many other studies are necessary to conduct in the context. Otherwise, both the
pieces of writing are informational enough to convey an effective message to the audience.
The perspective of an ethical organization
Based on the articles mentioned above, the authors did deep research on the ethics in
policing. It has been observed that policing is an important department, and various ethics are
involved in it.
The first principle of ethical organization is to have equality among the clients and the
police officers. There should be no discrimination and racial bias in the police organizations
because the historical context showed that there had been limitations in the safety promotion and
police organizations used to keep the bias and racial discrimination.
The blacks were targeted, and they were not given the proper rights. another ethical
protocol is to give the public the freedom to complain or come to resolve the queries in the police
stations. It has been observed that police officers should be kind and polite enough to deal with
the public.
There should be no fear and feeling of sacredness among the public, and they should be
welcomed throughout the day. The poverty in low-income countries has been increased, and due
to the increase in crime rates, police attention has been increased. The research of both articles
has shown that ethical organizations should promote safety, equality, and fairness among
employees. The public should realize that the police officers are appointed for their safety and
should not be feared.

Moreover, they should be assured of equality, and there should be no discrimination
among the people. The features of the organization show that racism should be eliminated, and
the police organizations should also be given respect.
Characteristics of training, leadership, and employees in an ethical police organization
In the context of the articles mentioned above, training and leadership in an ethical police
organization is an important concern. One of the most important concerns is the training and
leadership among the employees in the police organization. The first characteristic of ethical
practice in the police organization is to train them to have no bias among the police officers and
the public. It has been seen that minorities are often ignored in organizations. Still, the training
should be given that equality should be promoted in both the employees and police officers.
The training of employees refers that they should be taught to promote the safety culture
and terminate the public's fear. The police officers are appointed to save the people from the
crimes, but if they are not kind and polite towards the public, the terror and the fear will remain
in the society. They should be trained to treat the people well based on integrity and respect.
Leadership is an important concern in police organizations because it has been seen that
the leaders lead the organization in the right direction. The appropriate and successful leader is
the one who knows how to follow the ethical principle and how to promote safety in society. It
has been observed in the articles that the leaders should be consistent with their duties, and they
should try to teach the employees about equality and the importance of policing in society.

ARTICLE CRITIQUE 5
Challenges associated with organizations replete with corruption like racism and
discrimination from a Christian and Biblical worldview.
The Bible has condemned racism and discrimination through the different verses, and
some of them are as follows. "He was born as an outsider among the poorest and rejected”
(LukeB2:7-8). “In the birth story, an angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds” (Luke 2:8-9). “The
foreign wise men (magi) came to worship him" (Matthew 2:1-12). These verses have suggested
that racism and discrimination should be avoided and all people should be treated equally.
However, the police departments are seen not to follow these practices. Inequality and racism are
prevalent in the police department. Western countries like the USA have been reported to
discriminate among the public, and it is expected that a long time is needed to overcome such
challenges.
