Abstract
Having a Christian worldview should be incorporated into every part of one’s life. From the way
someone thinks to how they act. It should be present in not only a person’s personal life but in
their professional life as well. If someone truly lives a Christian life other people will see it and
be affected by their actions. Being in law enforcement is no exception if anything it is even more
important because law enforcement has a position of higher authority and people look up to
them. Christians in law enforcement have a chance to show others the love of God. The Bible
clearly tells us laws are important and we are to obey them and respect those entrusted to enforce
them. Matthew 5:9 (NIV) clearly tells us, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called
children of God.” Christians have a duty to uphold the laws while treating others as Jesus would.

Christian Worldview in Law Enforcement
God places Christian in vocations where they can do, they most good, being in law
enforcement gives Christians a way to enforce the law as well as helping those in need. There are
many references in the bible that point to the importance of law enforcement.
Christians in Law Enforcement
Christians can maintain their beliefs while serving them community and upholding the
laws. Doing this takes a strength, commitment, and faith. Recognizing those who do it on a daily
basis can show others that it can be done. God has a plan for each of us we just need to be open
to him.
Sheriff Greg White
Sheriff Greg White of Jefferson City, MO started his law enforcement career in 1978 with
the Sitka Police Department in Alaska. Throughout college he researched different religions but
never found what worked for him. While working in Alaska many people told Him about God
including a fellow officer with whom he rode with for a month. In 1980 while on patrol he gave
his life to God. White applied to and was accepted at the Juneau Police Department May 1981.
“While serving the state as a narcotics agent, he served as pastor of a small church, where he
preached twice each month. White later resigned from the force to become a church planter for
First Baptist. The job included living in two rooms at the church “with the use of the kitchen,”
insurance and a “small salary.” While at First Baptist, White started six churches and a Bible
study. “Some are still going, but others shut down because logging shut down,” he said. (Brown,
2006)”
White left law enforcement and became a full-time pastor. When his father got sick, he
moved back to Jefferson City so that his wife and kids could get to know his dad as well as

helping take care of him. He reluctantly re-joined the police force where he worked as resource
officer for Jefferson City High School, he also ministered through Open Door Community
Chapel as well as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Officer White openly shares his faith and
follows where God leads him every day. Mark 16:15 (NIV) states “He said to them, “Go into all
the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
Officer Johnathan Fontenot
Officer Fontenot works for Thibodaux PD in Louisiana. In his own words he states “I
am a Christian, but I am also a Police Officer. The challenges of being a Christian or a Police
Officer are in and of themselves diverse, but being both at the same time has proved to be
more challenging than I could have ever imagined. (Fontenot, 2013)” His reasoning is that
most of the people he comes in contact with on a daily basis are not Christians. Not having a
community of Christians makes day to day life hard. Seeing the evil in the world today and
not having others by his side to help him deal has not been easy. He keeps reminding himself
that the evil he faces today will one day be gone and the world will be a place of peace. He
states that he cannot go around telling everyone about God but that he tries every day to
shows people he is a Christian by his actions. Fontenot reminds us all “If you have to tell
everyone that you are a Christian, then perhaps you are just not showing it. Of course I have
been subject to some opposition, but I know that is to be expected if I endeavor to follow
Christ faithfully and boldly.” He feels blessed when he does get the chance to share his faith
with others. Fontenot believes that God called in to go into law enforcement and is with him
everywhere he goes. If any verse fits with Fontenot’s way of thinking it would be Joshua 1:9
(NIV) “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be
discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
