Learning Goal: I'm working on a criminal justice discussion question and need an
explanation and answer to help me learn.
Considering the evidence on the association between media and crime, would you
recommend that young children be forbidden to view films with violent content?

Watch: Conflict and Relation
Conflict in relation one of the policy implications of Social Development theories policy initiatives
suggested by social development perspectives would focus on early intervention to prevent and we can
see in the development of positive social capital examples of initiators based on social development
perspectives include the j.j. D.P.'s comprehensive strategy programme and the Boys and Girls Clubs of
America targeted outreach programs how might social problems be Saw From the perspective of
peacemaking criminology peacemaking criminology emphasizes the use of participatory restored of
justice as a way to develop a shared consensus on issues of crime rather than having the views of one
group dominate instead of adversarial proceedings in which there is inevitably a winner and loser this
approach utilizes alternative dispute resolution programs such as mediation and emphasizes cooperate
efforts to resolve disputes after an offender is processed by the criminal justice system he or she
becomes seen by society not as a person who did that things but is a bad human being who is beyond
redemption wants to find this individual has fewer 3 children opportunities available to him or her in
addition only the others who have been so really defined attended by society are available to associate
with that individual look not obstructions placed upon educated sex offenders one of them is a
requirement to register with the local sheriff's department in the jurisdiction in which they live their
pictures published as well as their place of residence is difficult for them to get jobs and without a John
they're prone to turn some form of criminal behavior on one hand you could live next door to a
registered sex offender and know about it on the other hand you could be living next to a paroled
murderer and not know it does that seem right. What is convict criminology and how does it differ from
the other emerging theories come that Criminology is the newest radical paradigm it differs from other
emerging theories in that it is less of a school of thought than a body of writings in musings on the
subject of criminology but convicted felons and ex inmates who have obtained academic credentials or
who are associated with the credentials of others it is largely issues based and very personal even the
language used by convict criminologists differs from that used by academics of knowledge as we do not
have a conflict background what are the implications of conflict theory for 5 Control Policy conflict from
analogy on 1st 3 levels of policy implications The 1st relates to the macro or wider societal level in calls
for whites prince of changes to redistribute wealth this view suggest that crime will fall as poverty and
social inequities are eliminated the 2nd advocates a gradual transition to socialism and socialized forms
of government activity as a way to reduce crime the 3rd suggested applying conflict resolution principles
that and micros of all through the use of participatory restored of Justice now suppose I told you that I
was going to give 3 tests during this course the rules are very simple after a grade a test to determine
scoring average it into a single score this is the score I would get everyone that way I can redistribute the
wealth from the students who prepared for one of the test to the students who did not I can bet that
after the 1st test you'd be disappointed if you received a b. minus on the exam but found that you got
every question correct during the next test students like yourself probably wouldn't work as hard
because they would know for certain that they would never get in a so I can bet that the class average
would be quite lower for the 2nd test by the 3rd test I would wager that everyone would more or less
give that everyone would fail now what are your thoughts on redistributing wealth. What if policy
implications of the biblical model over the past presentations we've had an overview of various criminal
logical theories and how those theories might affect policy recommendations so what about a biblical
perspective just made it clear that Christians are to love and take care of their neighbors how much love
and care are we to show Jesus said Love your neighbor as yourself we probably all do a pretty good job
of taking care of ourselves and with the same level of care we are to reach out and love our community
this is in line with the Biblical doctrine they were all made in God's image and therefore we have in here
we have all rights of life liberty and property in our prior presentations we discussed how all universal
objective truth stems from the Bible and therefore our actions ideas and policy recommendations must
comport with the Word of God for the more we know that we are all sinners in need of a Savior we are
all in the same boat this has a tremendous equalizing effect across society the power of the covenant
between the people and the government allow citizens to hold the government accountable and for the
government to hold an individual accountable when they have violated another another's right to life
liberty or property What do all postmodern criminologist have in common they all build on the
supposition or idea that past criminal logical approaches have failed to realistically assess the true
causes of crime and if therefore fail to offer workable solutions for crime control in addition most post
modern theories are deconstructionist in nature in other words they devalue truth by calling that there
are no moral absolutes further this perspective is moral relativism the belief that a moral in one culture
is no better than a moral in another culture because it came down as an in green moral within that
culture postmodernist consider truth to be relative many then point to the old Hindu tale of the blind
man touch an elephant to determine what it is like well since since each one of the blind men hold a
different part of the elephant each of them described the elephant quite differently the post-modernist
would argue that each blind man was telling the truth even though they were saying something
different. There is no one truth they would say only versions of the truth but there's one problem to that
story there is someone in the story that knows the complete truth and that's the story telling he knows
the truth so when caught tells a story through his words it's true no ifs ands or buts.

Media and Crime
The development of technology has made the media a significant part of the everyday life
of most people in the modern world. For instance, most interactions between people happen
through social media, which has also become a major source of learning for young people,
influencing their behaviour both positively and negatively. There has been numerous evidence
indicating the association between the media and the increase in violent and aggressive
behaviour among children (Siegel, 2019). For example, children watching violent films have
been established to be at a higher risk of engaging in aggressive behaviour (Khurana et al.,
2019). It is for this reason that young children should be forbidden to view films with violent
content. Young children are at a developmental stage where they are curious about what they see
and often want to try it out using the information they learn from the media. For instance, they
are likely to be curious about how it would feel to act like a person in a violent film and would
end up hurting other children as they imitate the actor they idolized in the violent film.
Some violent films portray characters who engage in violent actions as heroes making
children admire their character. With this information, they are likely to be influenced into
thinking that violent and aggressive behaviour is not always bad and cause them to end up taking
a violent path in their lives. This calls for the need to ensure that children are not exposed to such
content in the media. Parents should monitor and set regulations for what they allow their
children to watch in the media and forbid them from viewing films that contain violent content.
In addition to regulating what young children watch to prevent exposure to violent content, the
parents should also educate the young children on why they should not be exposed to such
content for them to have a better understanding of the basis for those restrictions to prevent the
possible development of rebellious behaviour.
